Posted - May 04 2006 : 04:52:44 AM My Mom had a stroke yesterday and I can't get to her, she lives in Nevada and I"m in Missouri and I'm still waiting to hear how bad it is. She is 82 and quit taking her meds, says she's lived her life. It's frustrating not being able to be there, please say a prayer for her! I know this could be her time and I also know she wouldn't want to be in a nursing home or left to be a vegetable. Your prayers are apprecited and comforting, thank you!

Posted - May 09 2006 : 11:46:38 AM Some update, my sister still hasn't seen the doctor while she's been there anyway and he's not returned any of her calls, but she did find out that my Mom will start rehab soon and she is eating soft foods but still no test results. Kay, she doesn't have a regular doctor, the small town ( about 2 hrs. from Vegas) where they live only has a clinic and she won't go cuz she doensn't like the P.A. She sleeps most of the time which is good I guess, so the brain doesn't have to think too much. Thanks to all who have sent prayers, they must be working because she's hanging in there! Hugs to all!

Posted - May 06 2006 : 07:39:53 AM Sue -- what about her regular doctor? Has he/she been notified? I think I would be raising some cane at that place! What a disgrace to treat someone like that. I'm still praying and hope things work out for you to go there. Hugs!

Posted - May 06 2006 : 06:24:51 AM Thank you ALL!!!!! Can you believe we still don't know anything! The hospital she's in in Las Vegas has proved to be a BIG shame on the city. My sister has been there for 2 days now waiting to see a doctor for test results and he's been a no show! The nurses can't tell her anything because it has to come from the doctor. They aren't giving her any meds or food, just a IV, she sleeps 90% of the time! What a disgrace, I can't beleive a hospital would treat anyone like that! I'm trying to figure out a way to get out there, it's not really in the budget plus we have 2 kids to get home from college in a couple of weeks, so it's a trying time, but the comfort found here is a blessing and I love you all!

Posted - May 04 2006 : 10:06:27 PM Sue, I remember chatting with you about Nevada a while back. Remind me (in a private email if you want) what part of Nevada?
Sounds like your mom has family around her. I was going to see if there was anything I could do, if of course I am close enough.
I used to be a home health nursing assistant *before babies* and I dealt ALOT with elderly and stoke stuff. It is very difficult. Keep your chin up.

Please know that you both are in my prayers. Is there anyway you could go to be with her?
