Posted - Jun 05 2006 : 07:00:05 AM Our 5th wedding anniversary in in September!!!! So far every year something has been going on, either moving, or about to have a baby or a family member getting married or moving again....
I have been trying to think of something really special and fun that we can do that would get us out on a little vacation over labor day weekend that wont break the bank. We would be driving from Helena Montana which could get us many places in a days time, but I have been trying to think of something really great thats pretty cheap.
So far all I have come up with is driving to Edmonton Mall and stopping in Banff and Calgary on the way to see some castles... not bad but once we get to the mall we probably wont be in the position to buy anything with the cost of gas and all...I think we could do better with some tips from folks who have had good experiences around the area...
anyone? anyone?

Posted - Jun 07 2006 : 10:19:41 AM Thanks for the tip! I just checked out the website for Waterton National park, and now instead of wasting all the money on gas to be on the road all weekend to get to Edmonton, we're just going to spend the 3 days at Waterton.
Thanks a lot for your response I never even know that park existed :)

Posted - Jun 05 2006 : 11:29:00 AM Well, I'm from Lethbridge, Alberta and have been to all of those places! I was actually in Helena 2 weekends ago...my hubby was racing in the Triathlon in Great Falls, and we were camping at Black Sandy State Park. I drove into Helena to go shopping at Target, we don't have them in Canada! Banff is very beautiful in the summer, and if you want to stay there, hotels are more reasonably priced, since it's off-season (ie: not ski season). Nights might be a little cool by then. But if you want to see "castles" that would be the place. The Banff Springs Hotel is truly a castle, well worth seeing. If you head up to Calgary, there's plenty to see and do in the city. And the mall in Edmonton is a sight, there's a huge water park (slides and a big pool) and I don't think it's very expensive. And...if you want to see something really pretty, and a little less commercial, check out Waterton Lakes National Park. It's right on the border between Alberta and Montana, just north of Glacier National Park. It's a very pretty and magical place. I recommend staying at the Kilmorey Lodge. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions about the area.
