I thought it would be fun to "talk dairy" this month to honor national dairy month. Here's a fun fact that popped up in my e-mail to start it off:
How many dairy cows would it take to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool with milk in a day?

The answer is: 82,500 cows!
According to the USDA, the average dairy cow produces 8 gallons of milk a day. To fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool, which holds 660,000 gallons, it would take 82,500 cows... and A LOT of farmers to milk them!

I am grateful for the milk from cows that I use on my morning cereal, cheese for dishes like mac'n cheese, cheese and crackers just about anytime, butter for baking, and half/half for my morning coffee! Thank-you cows!!

And that's just an average producing cow! I just looked it up. The world record for the most milk in a day was set in 2019 (breaking a 39 year record) at 127.7 liters, which is roughly 280.9 pounds of milk. She was milked 3 times that day. She's a rather funny looking cow from Brazil. Here's an article about her if you'd like to see her: https://www.dairyglobal.net/dairy/milking/brazil-cow-breaks-world-record-for-milk-production/#:~:text=The%20Brazilian%20bovine%20female%20reached,a%20remarkable%20aptitude%20for%20production.

Wow! I’m just amazed that one cow produces 8 gallons a day, lol. I had no idea.

That is a neat fun fact! That would be a lot of milk and a lot of cows.
