Just got it yesterday and I am totally thrilled with how it turned out! It is the book I wish I would have had when i first started my milk cow adventure. So much detail and the info you really need that I learned the hard way. I totally recomend it!

Grew up with cows that we milked and butchered. As a young mother, with my hubby and two small children, lived in a house in exchange for taking care of Jerseys (and an Angus or two). I milked the Jerseys who lost their calves . . . sold some of the milk, made cheese, butter, etc., etc. We now own Longhorns, which are NOT milk cows . . . and we're trying to get out of the cow business. We do butcher them and they are tasty! Longhorns are lean meat, ours are 100% grass-fed, organic and "home grown".
I love the book and use some of the recipes as I get raw milk from a neighbor . . . do NOT want a milk cow . . . or goats (been there, done that too). Wanna be free from some of the farm chores, now that we're senior citizens.

Hi ! I've been away from the forums for a while but now I have found my way back "home". Thanks to my sweet in-laws my husband and I have inherited 8 acres of land and a house in a small town here in Texas. We plan to live there when my husband retires, hopefully in the near future! I want chickens, a big garden, and now a milk cow! I may need to clear more of the land....

Just a fantastic book! I waited three weeks to check it out at our library! And I couldn't put it down for days! I've decided that when we have our own farm, we will be getting a cow!!!

We did own Holsteins and gurnseys when I was little but none now but I love jerseys. They are so gentile and their milk is so yummy. Mary Jane has the most beautiful jerseys. She has a new baby calf born on Easter named Ester Lily . I love her book too. The best book on cows I've ever seen and the recipes are yummy.

No room nor desire to own a cow, but I do love this book -- just as I love all the others. Well, be fair, I haven't read "Glamping" yet, but I am still savoring the others. I agree with Winnie -- so many yummy sounding recipes and they are presented so beautifully. I think sometimes I get as much just from the reading and dreaming as I do from the actual "doing." ha First thing I did after giving this book a quick skim (see how I worked the "cow" vocab in there?) was to make some butter. Had not done that in years!!! I bought myself a wonderful KitchenAid mixer last fall and it made such easy work of the butter! We don't eat a lot of butter here (Dude is not a big bread person), so when I have butter I like to have GOOD butter.

I love the book, too.
I want a cow or two or three... I have every other farm animal but hubby won't let me get a cow. I've often thought of just getting one and waiting on how long it would take for him to notice. haha But, if I did that he would 'have a cow'!
So, I'm content with my 4 dairy goats, Millie, Tawny, Tess, and Gracie.
One of the best compliments from one of my daughters: "Moma, you smell good...like dirt." |

I too own and like all of Mary Jane's books. Was so excited when the Milk Cow Kitchen book finally arrived. I wanna cow!! Thank you Mary Jane for sharing your knowledge.

I live in the city but there are so many recipes with milk that I can try without being able to own a cow. Like all of MaryJanes books, they are fun to read and full of so many ideas to learn and consider. Plus the photography is fantastic! I love all of her books and find myself re-reading them to learn new things . They are great reference books to have if you need a quick reference. She has the first three books sold in a bundle for a discount if you go to the home page online store.

I have never really wanted a cow,,,,,but I have been interested in a dairy goat.....I will probably order this book anyway and then decide that I want and need a cow and that it was all my idea to start with.lol
I had all 3 of maryjanes books and then I gave them to my niece for her daughters that she is homeschooling and because she is a farmgirl in the heart even though she lives in a neighborhood.....now I am always homesick for my books so I know I will have to replace them and check in to the new books as well....maryjane is such a good writer and her books are way too informative and lovely to read so what is a farmgirl to do.......by the way aunt jenny it is so great to have you back here in the family
