Is there something natural we can put on our horse to keep the flies from drinking at her eyes and landing all over her?

I have also noticed that there are mosquitoes around our bunny cage. How about repelling them?

What do you use for human bug repellent? I bought the right oils a long time ago and I can't remember what we used.
I'd like to get into it again. I don't want to use OFF.

Thank you!
Stephanie

Orange oil will not hurt the skin of a horse, so dab it where you want.

Awesome ladies! I have orange and eucalyptus already. I have some almond oil too! Any issue with treating the horse too? Should it be misted on her or can I just dab some drops on her mane, some where it won't get to her skin?

Thanks so much.
Stephanie

Stephanie, anything you can use on a cat, can be used on a rabbit, I suggest orange oil, put it in a spray bottle and "mist" in on your rabbits. ( as a side note, find out where the standing water is, that is a breeding ground for skeeters, any place that sells pond supplies will have natural larva killers you can put in the water, which is safe for all animals, including fish). As far as for your horse, a fly mask is the best thing for that problem.

Hey Stephanie--I know there are fly masks/hoods made for horses, so maybe that will help? Also, I know people use citronella as a natural bug deterrent, but not sure how effective it is, as I've not used it personally. One blog that I sometimes follow seems to have a good post on this, which is HERE: h b ttp://chooksiniowa.blogspot.com/2010/05/fly-relief-for-four-footed-friends.html br / /b

Hope this helps!
