Well hubby finally finished the stanchion...finally thinking we'll be able to get some milk..think again. Believe Maizy to have a small case of mastitis in both left quarter and the bacterial infection like foot rot on her udder in the center where it meets her belly. Called everyone I could think of and given doomsday reports:( well I put the mastitis antibiotic in teats and cleaned/put iodine on open wound on udder with bag balm on top with a shot of penecillian and lots of prayers. Today Maizy's left quarters gave me a little more milk...seems to not be as hard and the wound still looks pretty good. Her temp went down from 102 to 100 lastnight:) She actually calmned some too for when I milked her...no wonder she's been fiesty poor gal...please continue to lift her in prayer for a speedy recovery and her milk supply to go up when she's healed! Thanks all! Leanne

oh leanne i am so sorry your cow is sick. sounds like you have things handled. when our cow had mastitis the keeping a family cow folks had me put cayenne pepper into oil and rub on her bag to warm it up. it helps the milk to flow better when there is mastitis and it helps blood flow. not on the teats just the bag. please keep us posted. i was also told to milk as often as i could through the day to help move out the dead cells in the udder. just a thought or two. happy days sherrye

Sounds like things are getting better Leanne...it takes awhile sometimes. Mona had mastitis a couple times..just in one quarter but it does take a while to clear up even with antibiotics. Poor thing..it hurts..no wonder she was a stinker. I will sure keep her (and you!) in my prayers.
