When I got home from work today, Boxer wasn't feeling too well--his stomach was making gurgling noises and he seemed uncomfortable, walking around and not wanting to lie down. So I fixed him a bowl of oatmeal and now he's back to his usual self. Good for what ails ya, man or beast. Served with a dollop of love.

Teresa--no, it wasn't bloat, I believe an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Boxer eats from a bowl with raised bumps which slow down his eating, and I never let him over exert himself or drink large quantities of water. He spends most of the day laying on "his" couch, he just gets a tummy ache from time to time. His stomach makes gurgling noises but I've never seen any sign of swelling that might indicate bloat. He's fine now, wants to go for a walk. Believe me, if I thought he had bloat, I'd rush him to the vet as fast as I could. He's just a senior citizen and gets out of sorts easier than he used to. He's twelve, which is old for a boxer, so I take extra special care of him. He was just having a Willford Brimley moment, happens to the best of us. Thanks for your concern.

I usually give my animals green beans cooked soft. It purges their system. I never thought of oatmeal. They all enjoy our leftover oatmeal when there is any.
