I am so excited! We have spent the last 4 days refurbishing an old shed into a chicken coop and tomarrow we are getting up before dawn to head to the local sale barn to get a small flock of birds!!!!!! I plan to start out with 6 hens and a rooster and adding to the flock in the spring. The best part about all this is that so far we have spent $0 dollars on the coop renovation! Everything we have used for construction is salvaged material that we picked up this summer for free. I am so happy!!!! Next.....I want a milk cow!!!!!

I am soo excited for you kathyjane!!! Last year I did the same thing. With the help of my brother-in-law and some teenagers we converted a small shed into our coop. I have 5 red hens and 3 roosters. I also have 3 bantams that are just adorable. I am a full time wife and mother that loves her farmlife. Everyday I am soo happy and greatful when I go to the coop to see my babies and to gather my 5 big brown eggs.
I am like you, now I want a milk cow.
Keep in touch sister,

Kathy, I am wondering how the sale went and if you found your chickens.
