I just got a Nubien buck. He seems to be a pretty big boy, a lot bigger than our Nubien/Kiko nanny. My question is this: how do I know if he is too big for the 2 smaller does? They are about 21 or 22 inches at the shoulder (11 months old) the nanny is about 28 inches at the shoulder. He is more than 30 inches for sure. Do you think he would be too big for the little ones? I wouldnt want them to try to have a babies that are too large and die! The people we got him from said he throws small babies. Peace Connie |

i was told that goats were fully grown by two as well-i would wait one more year before i bred them but that is just my opinion take it for what it is worth. you are going to get alot of different opinions!

Hmm, I was told that goats are fully grown at 2 years of age. lol
But you have to remember that each goat is diffrent and they will react diffrently.

I have read that goats are not "fully" grown until they are three. They may not get much taller but they continue to fill out, kinda like horses. I usually wait until my girls are 1-1/2 before breeding too.

So he is only 2 inches taller than the doe? The other ones are still growing and they will get taller right? Thwy will stillg row as they are pregnant. As long as they are 80-90 pounds, I would do it. I usually wait til they are 1 1/2 but many breeders do it at 8-9 mos as long as they have grown well.

Hey Connie, Gosh this is a hard one. I guess I would wait till your does got a little bigger just to be safe. I hate taking chances with my goats so I like to play it safe. But it's up to you. He sounds like a beautiful but big buck.
