Hello ladies! I am very excited to be getting a new chicken coop, built by a local man. It is his 4x8 model which I have him customizing with a dutch door, 2 windows with flower box's under them on a long wall, hen door on the opposite long wall and a window above the nest boxes on the back wall. Here is one of his coops to give example of it's style: 
The best part?! It is still well below any other shed or coop price around.{under $400}.
I will be picking up our new coop on the 15th. It will fit in the back of the truck for moving,which has me laughing to think what people might think seeing this thing in the back of my lil truck.
I would LOVE to see some inside pictures of your chicken coops showing how you customized/decorated your ladies {and gents} quarters.
How about chandeliers in the coop?
Any special touches not "normal" to chicken coops?
I am almost finished with a wire chandelier "bird cage" for the light in our coop. Acts as a safety block of the lightbulb but adds personalization and charm.

Thank you ladies. I am so excited to have an actual NICE chicken coop. lol. As for dimensions, the side walls are 8ft long, the front{door end} and the back wall are 4 ft wide. The roof at its top pitch is 6ft high from the inside. I am assuming the side walls are around 4 ft tall where they meet the metal roof. I am 5'8, so the height is not much of a prob for me. My husband is 6'3 but he rarely ever goes in the chicken coops. it's my thing. He only babysits if I go on a road trip and even then he would just have the kids go in.
Our pen for them is very large. It is in an L shape along a 4 car {2in front 2 in back box style} garage and at the widest/longest part of the L it is about 50 ft long and 30 ft wide. I am using the old 4x4 coop for storing their straw since it will match their larger coop except it has roof shingles and not metal.
Nubidane- my husband would be drooling. That has always been his one requisit when we talked about our mini farm life. It will only be seen if you are back by the garden or Bonfire area, so I did not argue. He can have a wall since I get the rest. ;) |

My chicken days are still a year or so off, but I am devouring up everything I can in the meantime. Your chicken coop sounds glorious! What are the actual dimensions? I am thinking only about 3-5 hens when the time comes so I'm trying to figure out a good size for that. I can't wait to see pictures of these fabulous coops!!!

Hello ladies & Thank you for chirping in. ;) I am whitewashing the ENTIRE inside with the ol' fashioned lime & water paint. Comes out white but great as a bug deterrant too. I am painting the nest boxes a very light robins egg blue color. Hanging a black background sign with white lettering that will read "Fresh eggs" above the nest boxes and putting in -along 2 ft of the side walls by the door- some coat rack style clip pegs to hang my watermelon pink painted garden tools. Hanging a few of my garden baskets for easy grabbing just above the tools. Just not enough to hang more then a few of my favorites.
I am also making a white with black lettering sign for above the front door "Le poulet maison" {translates to "The chicken house"}.
The inside height at the peak is only 6ft tall, otherwise I would utilize the height & hang my garden baskets from the rafters.
I am actually considering a selfmade stain glass window for above the nest box area in place of the steel mesh it comes with. A nice sunflower scene with a chicken on it. They have those easy kits at the craft stores, so I may make it for a summer project.
That is as far as I got in my dream scheme of my coop. lol.
My husband has always always stated that if we ever have a bran, he wants the mail pouch sign on it, which I was fine with at the time. Well I'm sitting here foot in mouth and he is planning his painting on the back end of the coop. oops. I guess we all comprimise with some things. lol.
I am going for fancy shabby chic/french vintage decor. I am also planting a climbing rose bush by the chain link of their run,where the human gate entry is, about 8ft from where the coop is being placed.
Daizy~ he makes them in a 4x12 size too but we only need enough for 16 chickens. I like to keep the animal amount down to a size meant for just personal use/consumption. We are sharing eggs with a very adored Landlord of this 3 acre cottage home, who lives across the road from us. They indulge my playing farmer ways. ;)

Hay Ya'll Tammie, be sure to add a family photo inside so they will always know who cares for them.....that would be a photo of you.....maybe holding one or two of your chicks.....with your apron on, of course. Then add washable curtains on the windows.....thick enough to block out the cold but of a light colored fabric to let light it even when closed. Will you be painting the inside? It might stay cleaner if your put a high gloss paint in there. Thats a cute house, I want one only bigger.

Tammi, Another sister chick from Ohio ... I love that.
My chicken coop was built with used / inexpensive lumber :)
and I am decorating the inside the same way ... cheap !!
By using the feed bags. Use your imagination and yours
will look great.
