Posted - Oct 02 2014 : 7:01:39 PM We're looking into getting bees this next Spring and I was wondering if anyone had any advice? I'm also looking at where to buy Russian bee packages as there are very few online I could find that have colder weather bees? We plan on doing top bar hives. I can't wait to make homemade candles, salves, and other goodies with beeswax and honey!

Posted - Oct 07 2014 : 11:15:06 AM I'm just a beginner, too. I've been going to the meetings I mentioned for over a year and just got my first hive this past year. That's why I didn't give much more advice than what I did. I don't have enough knowledge to offer. But, one day I will!!!

Posted - Oct 07 2014 : 05:05:52 AM Check with your local County Extension Office. They will have info that is specific to your area. Plus, there may be a group that has meetings. Do a google search for your state's beekeeping association. The association probably has yearly conventions and a list of members/vendors.
Our County Extension has a beekeeping group of about 200 members. We have monthly meetings, mentors, and all members have access to use the club's extractor and other equipment. Very cool!
