Posted - Dec 31 2009 : 8:46:41 PM Hi girls,
I like suggestion of having a project a month. Do you think one month will give you enough time to create several of the same item? If we get it together, we can make many and barter or swap some of them as Christmas gets closer. Please help me with ideas for projects that are simple to create and do not cost too much money. As the next month gets closer, if anyone wishes to post the same type of heading as above and then post what our next project will be, that would be great. We are in this together, so I don't want you to feel that I am monopolizing this topic. If a certain month's project does not interest you, not a problem. Stay tuned, as maybe the next month's will.
For January I am going to make pot pinchers or oven mitts. Is this something you would enjoy making and giving as presents? Here are a couple of pictures I found of styles I like. I am trying to steer away from the normal oven mitt and am going to use the Insul-Bright to make sure they are safe. I also am going to make them with everday prints, not holiday specific. This way they can be used throughout the year. (I'm funky like that)

So, please give me feedback if this type of thread is something that would interest you. We can post pictures as we work in order to share our progress. I personally like posting pictures 'cause then it shows you all that I am actually working on my projects and not flaking.
Have a good day!

Posted - Feb 10 2010 : 06:36:05 AM They are really easy, you don't need a pattern, if you want an oven mit, just trace one you have, that is what I did. I turned out fine. and for round, just trace a bowl, and a square is easy, and yes a quilted one would be so cute!! |

Posted - Feb 09 2010 : 9:19:07 PM Hi Gayle,
Since you are a quilter, why not draft an 8" or 10" quilt block to do up into a potholder. Just an idea.

Posted - Feb 09 2010 : 1:34:51 PM I have just found this and love the idea. However, does anyone know of a cheaper pattern than Vanilla House? I am retired and a $9 pattern is abit steep for me. Thanks.

Posted - Feb 07 2010 : 11:23:16 AM I also love this idea! I think the potholders are a great idea. You could even make a kitchen set that includes tea towels, washcloths, apron, etc
Last Xmas I followed http//www.sewmamasew.com blog --they had a Handmade Holidays feature during Nov. that featured several ideas each day for handmade gifts. You might check out their archives and see if they have some projects you like.

Posted - Feb 03 2010 : 05:07:44 AM For those of you who are looking to imprint on a charm: You may be able to actually make the charm out of polemar clay and then use mini stamps to stamp what ever you want on it. After you stamp it, bake in the oven to harden. Or, instead of stamping you may be able to write what ever you want with a tooth pick.
Oh happy day! |

Posted - Feb 01 2010 : 10:06:53 AM So..What's on the agenda for February? I'm in need of inspiration. Not that I don't have 1,000 projects started that I am trying to finish, I'm just ready to start something new. Gotta keep it interesting!

Posted - Jan 17 2010 : 8:42:43 PM I was thinking the same thing, Cindy. I was hoping that maybe someone would have an idea on maybe how to engrave it onto a charm or charms. I'm thinking if it went on one charm, the letters maybe to small to read. ooohh I just thought of a book I glanced at today at Jo-Ann's. It was about altered paper jewelry. Maybe that would be a way to do it?

Posted - Jan 17 2010 : 12:55:29 PM Melanie I like the saying "farmgirl is a condition of the heart" too but would that be too long to fit on a necklace or bracelet/charm ?? I Know I could embroider it !
Hope you get more input on this it would be interesting !

Posted - Jan 17 2010 : 09:07:32 AM You all are so inspiring!! I was not feeling inspired by the one pot-holder pattern I found in stock in town so I started on my mom's present for next year - a knitted bag. Then I was in the fabric shop my friend has and she had a new book called "One-Yard Wonders" - you all should check it out. It has patterns or instructions for 101 projects that can be made with one yard of fabric - including one for pot-holders. There are some pretty cute projects - stuff for home, aprons, lots for kids. Anyway I used the rest of my Christmas money to buy the book - at 21.00 pretty reasonable for that many patterns - and I will be started on my pot-holders, I will try to catch up!! You all should post pictures - would love some farm-girl examples Amy Grace

Posted - Jan 14 2010 : 2:21:51 PM This is one idea I had for jewelry, but I have no idea how to go about doing it. I would love to have or be able to make a necklace or bracelet with a charm or pendant that has the inscription, "Farmgirl is a condition of the heart". Does anyone know how we could make a charm like this or have one made? We could use our charms to make a bracelet or necklace and maybe swap them out. We used to do something similar in girl scouts at Christmas with homemade ornaments.

Posted - Jan 13 2010 : 08:36:37 AM I finally found the time to at least get my pieces for 2 pot holders cut. I plan on sewing them up later this evening. They won't be anything fancy though. I'm trying to use up my scraps and trying to get motivated after the "big freeze." Anyhoo I hope you ladies are having fun with your potholders!

Posted - Jan 08 2010 : 4:37:27 PM I figured out how to get the bias tape around the edge of my potholder, it looks ok, I need some stronger pins. I love the vintage fabric I found at the quilting store. It made a nice new "old fashioned" pot holder ; ) Perhaps I should have bought more than 1 yd. !

Posted - Jan 08 2010 : 06:14:17 AM Keep up the good work ladies. I have several pot holders cut. I switch between Valentines Day projects and the Christimas 2010 project.
My family and I are headed off to Oklahoma for vacation this weekend, so I won't be able to post for a little over a week.
Love the idea of the jewelry. Before February comes lets post some pics of simple pieces you all think we can create easily. My daughter just picked up a bracelet at Forever 21 which was very caute and looks to be simple to make. I will post a pic when we return.
Take care!
Have a good day!

Posted - Jan 08 2010 : 05:09:57 AM I just realized last night that I'm almost out of insul bright. I'm so glad our local fabric shop carries it. Now only if they are open today. We get a little bit of snow and seems to close everything up.
