I bought this sewing machine at an auction a while back, thinking I'd fix it up. haha...never got around to that! It's a beautiful sewing machine but I just don't know what to do with it right now, as far as fixing it up, and it would make my life simpler if I didn't have to take it to my new house. (Getting married in a couple weeks) I'm setting up a house from scratch so I'd like to barter any household stuff..kitchen stuff, decor, whatever you have! Or you could buy it outright...I need about $100 for it. I'm about 2.5 hours south of Lexington.

Ok, I'm freaking the heck out because have too many things to do!!! For those of you who don't know...I'm getting married SATURDAY. Like, 2 days. I have family starting to arrive today, I'm in the middle of making my cake, have to make the groom's cake, have to go pick up the church keys, go decorate the church, find flowers to decorate the reception hall, pick up my flowers, tell everyone else what to do and where to be, find the directions to the honeymoon cabin, clean my car up for the honeymoon, take my grandpa to see our house...oh, yeah...and walk down the aisle!!!

Hi Kayla,
This is a wonderful machine to have! I fix the old Singer's and own 2 treadles myself, and love sewing on it. It wont cost much to get it going. Have you ever used a treadle? I own an 1889 Singer 27 Treadle which is very similar to yours. here's some info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singer_Model_27_and_127

I'm including a pic for you to read the specific info on this machine.
Your machine is a Model 127, born May 23, 1919 at the Elizabethport Factory in Elizabeth, NJ.
Does everything turn easily?
You'll need: a front slide plate, and belt, bobbin winder tire. I recommend new needles, a can of singer oil, compressed air and rags. I see you have the shuttle (holds the bobbin thread). this is great.

While your waiting for the parts to arrive, clean out the bobbin area/shuttle with the compressed air. I recommend removing the round needle plate. Make sure there are no old threads stuck in there.After cleaning add a drop of oil, maybe two. Literally.
use the compressed air to literally clean in, and around every part of the machine.
Be careful not to lose any screws.
remove the old needle and throw it away. #1 rule, always replace the needle.
open the plates you see on the front and back (they have screws) and use the compressed air and add 1 drop of oil in each hole you see. refer to manual.
also add a drop or 2 (depending how easily it turns) to every moving part under the machine as well. Always turn the handwheel towards you and watch the parts moving. This is where you add oil.
never remove the thumbscrew holding the tension assembly together. just turn left slightly to loosen and spray air between the discs.

wipe the whole machine down with either mineral oil or singer sewing machine oil.
I also dust and wipe down the iron base with oil and place 1 drop of oil at all moving parts. this will make it run super smooth.
these simple steps should do it. and sewing will be exciting!
I also have info on putting the treadle belt on i can email you if you need it.
do you have attachments or the key for that table? you can use a flashlight to look into the holes of the drawers. the inside of the hole will be a specific shape: either a square, flat or 3 sided. Love it! love it!That how I learned to sew. My grandma had a sewing like that and we use to sew with it. Id love to get the machine from you. Not sure how to get from you to Northern Indiana.

Wow...I didn't realize just how desirable this was! Honestly, I'd love to keep it and get it cleaned up and working again one day. I haven't done anything with it since I got it, so I don't know how it sews or what it will take to get it working good. There are a couple pieces missing, it looks like, above the bobbin, but I guess I could find parts...? And it needs a belt, I know. I always thought it would be really neat to sew with a treadle. Looks like maybe I"ll just find a place for it in my new house after all... I do have a dedicated room for sewing/crafting (a DREAM come true!) so I'll just make room in there for it!

Gorgeous. Going by the serial number, your Singer was made in 1920 -- the year my late mother was born. How I would love to have it. I learned to sew on a treadle machine. $100 is a very (VERY) fair price. Alas, it would take me something like 10 hours to get to you. Might I suggest that you re-think getting rid of it? You might regret it one day. |

It's beautiful, and looks like it's in perfect condition. Have you tried posting it on Craigslist? Somehow things that are within driving distance seem to work better there.

Your treadle machine is exactly like mine,same design but your cabinet is different,mine is in a two drawer cabinet with a coffin box cover,beautiful machine,sews real nice too,I'm sure you'll find a buyer,the interest in treadles has grown in recent years,you may want to post about your machine on one of the treadle groups that are very active on Facebook such as Mad For Treadles,Treadle-On,etc..

I have had to figure out how to get horses that I have bought or sold from one place to another. There are a lot of barrel racers that have empty spots in their horse trailers that are going from state to state to compete. If one posts on barrelhorseworld.com one may be able to find a barrel racer going that way willing to bring it for a little help with the gas.

Congratulations Kayla on your upcoming wedding! I have a White sewing machine similar to yours and it belonged to my grandmother. It is heavy!!! I hope you find a good home for it. And I hope someday you do not wish you had it again! :)
