Posted - May 19 2007 : 2:52:23 PM My husband and I just purchased a house on 20 acres. We are currently fighting weeds! But the rain we've recieved was desperately needed. We have two spoiled dogs who love it out here! I can't believe how quiet it is out here. It's awesome to hear the pheasants, turkey's, and meadowlarks. We are busy remodelling the house(it's was half finished when we bought it). We both work full-time, so the weekends are all we have. I wouldn't trade being out here for anything! I'm somewhat new to the country life. So this is all a learning experience. If you have any helpful tips for me let me know!
Glad to be in the country! Erin |

Posted - Jun 05 2007 : 08:19:05 AM Mary Ann, Thanks for the welcome! The only animals we have are 2 spoiled dogs, and a cat. Funny thing about the cat, when we brought him home from the humane society we let him loose and haven't seen him yet! He is around somewhere, he keeps eating his food! My DH says I can't have any chickens because of the dogs. They're hunting dogs. I've tried to talk him into some goats to eat the weeds but he won't go for that either! Someday maybe I'll get him talked into it!

Posted - Jun 03 2007 : 5:00:29 PM Not too far apart then. Sorry to hear about your dining room and roof. We got 2" here. The drive was under water, but no structural damage. Hoping for no hail before the wheat gets harvested.

Posted - May 30 2007 : 10:13:05 PM Hi Erin, welcome! Boy can I ever relate to those tornado sirens! Seems like I heard them alot in April, including the night before my son got married! Luckilly our area didn't sustain any damage. Wow, sorry to hear about your dining room, yes fixing things (especially after storms), and renovations in general are so much fun (rolling my eyes here, lol). Glad to have you here! I'm new too, I'm sure you will love this great community! :-D
Hugs.. Jeannie

Posted - May 30 2007 : 4:42:54 PM We live around the McCook area! We had one heck of a storm last night. High winds and tornado sirens, thank goodness for the radio! We had a waterfall in our dining room, it rained about an 1 1/2 inches in there ! Luckily, it is still unfinished. But now we really have to fix the roof! Looking forward to chatting with all of you! Really enjoying the site! Erin |

Posted - May 30 2007 : 09:03:02 AM Welcome Erin!
I am currently fighting weeds in my yard too, and I have a spoiled dog :) Have you stopped by to read some of the posts in "Garden Gate" and "A Farm of My own" yet? There is tons of advice there, and it seems like any time I have a question- some farmgirl here can help out!
Welcome to the forums!

Posted - May 29 2007 : 12:00:05 PM Welcome, Erin! I'm pretty new to this too, but it's wonderful and fun reading all the forums and learning so much. Your place sounds great - desite the weeds. I live on top of a ridge in the Black Hills and know what you mean about the quiet - but it's too great to pass up on. We just moved into our dream home last summer and know about all the hard work with getting a house just the way you want it. We're working on our landscaping this spring and it's a lot of hard work. One day your house will be done and you'll just sit back and say "we did it ourselves" and "WOW". You'll find the country life grows on you. I'm so into doing things the country way - wearing boots and aprons and all that farm girl stuff.
A great big welcome to you. Look forward to hearing more about the progress on the house.
Peace and love to you.
