Posted - May 29 2007 : 3:53:20 PM Hi Everyone, I'm so happy to be a member!
My name is Jeannie, we've been living here in the North Dallas area for five years. I'm originally a New Jersey gal, and my husband is from Massachusetts, he grew up in a farming community.
I've got a 26 year old son (former Marine) who recently married, and I will be a first-time Grandma in July. I also have a 13 year old stepdaughter who lives with us. We've got eight dogs (all rescued from the pound, our smallest "baby" is a Mini-Dachsund whom my husband adopted from a family that just didn't want him anymore).
We own a mobile home that we've been slowly renovating for five years now (LOL, it's an adventure!), and our property is a one-acre, fenced in piece of land that we're slowly turning into our little "farm".
We're situated in a rural area which we love, but sad to say, right down the road from us, acres upon acres of farmland is being replaced with multiple housing developments. We sit right on the outskirts of that county, so I pray that development doesn't creep it's way ito our own county. After all, this lovely rural area is what attracted us in the first place.
My husband works from home, (I don't work anymore, I'm a former Registered Nurse), so we are together 24/7. We've just started a small 4 x 12 foot vegetable garden in a raised box bed, and we have plans to build seven more of those for the many vegetables we plan to grow. I'm also getting back into Herb gardening too, and just bought alot of Herb plants to place around the property too. We have come to the decision that we want to live as basic as we possibly can, and live a (hopefully) peaceful existance as country people.
Oh! I'm a reunited adoptee too, successfuly reunited with my wonderful birth-mother and birth-family two years ago. They all live in New Jersey, I visit them twice yearly. My mom grew up in a country-type atmosphere (her partner of 11 years owns a large farm too), and lives as close to the land as she possibly can. In the two years that we have been reunited, I've learned so much from her 'back to basics' philosophies.
I also enjoy a multitude of crafts..quilting, sewing, crocheting, (lots of stuff to make for my future grandchild after she arrives in July, lol), and I'll be looking forward to dusting off my long unused canning equipment for Fall harvesting.
Sorry this is so long-winded, I do tend to ramble (lol) but it is absolutely WONDERFUL to have found such a great group here, and make new friends! Love to all.... Jeannie

Posted - May 30 2007 : 10:27:16 AM Welcome Jeannie! Be sure to check the Stitching & Crafting Room on the boards, I'm sure you'll love it. And sign up for a swap, they are tons of fun! We have 3 dogs and my daughter just found a stray puppy last weekend. Calls me up at 1 in the morning and says there is a little puppy running back and forth across the road--can I bring her home? She knows darn well I can't say no so now we have 4. The vet said people dump puppies up there all the time, so my sister told her to go find 1 or 2 for her! Glad you are here. Merle |

Posted - May 30 2007 : 09:44:38 AM Thanks again gals...It's so good to be here. This seems like such a warm and wonderful community that I'm glad to be a part of it. I would have more dogs if we could, but I think eight is good for now (like that old TV show, "Eight is Enough" LOL). But with me, one never knows, (BIG grin here!) But once again, thanks so much for the warm welcomes :):) I'm in the process of setting up a blog with photos too. When it's all set up, I'll include the URL in my signature :-D
Hugs.. Jeannie

And ditto what Janice said about your dogs. My 3 pets were all strays, but wish I had room for more. Glad you joined us.

My dh is the manager of a municipal shelter in New Albany, Indiana. We have 5 dogs. Only one of them was rescued from his shelter. The others were rescued from various other places.
