Posted - May 30 2007 : 8:36:11 PM Hi!! I'm new to this kind of thing. My husband is always talking to people about sports online, but I've never found a forum I've been interested in. We just moved from Las Cruces, NM, to Irving, TX - a BIG change!!! We both grew up in Hobbs, NM and went to school at New Mexico State University before moving to the BIG CITY!!! Now, he's going to school at Parker Chiropractic College in Dallas, and I'm looking for a job as a Family and Consumer Sciences (Home Ec) teacher in the area. We have a "daighter" named Snowy (a border collie), who is our baby for now...and she's definately spoiled! I love to craft and sew and am very excited to read about what ya'll are doing. |

Posted - Jun 19 2007 : 8:04:17 PM Masey, Thank you so much!! (sorry I was MIA with asthma n kids for a bit) I may just take you up on that! I am very interested but am not sure what all areas I would be able to use it in. I would like to have my BA In Interior Design, my masters in Special Education and my PhD in FCS but do not know how I will be able to accomplish that on the road and moving so much. I may have to do other degrees for now and come back and get those once we settle in the USA. Last I checked no one has a degree in FCS online so we will see. But I would love that and that is my "one day" goal!! Thank you again and I do so hope you are enjoying "the farm"!! Hugz! Talitha

Posted - Jun 08 2007 : 4:27:08 PM Well Tabitha, I'm so excited to hear your interest in FCS!!! It is such an great area of study, especially if you are interested in families and children! My specialization is in education, so I can teach. I took a little of all of the courses offered in FCS, so a got a more general overview than some others in our field. I'm sad to say, our Interior Design program was very lacking...we only had one course and it was BAD!! Anyway, I've worked with a program called the Strengthening Families Initiative. Here, we worked with low-income families who needed help with a variety of issues relating to parenting and their children's development. It was a wonderful program through Dona Ana County Extension in New Mexico. I also got to work in a program called Fit Families. It was so fun! They brought families together once a week. They were split up by children and adults, where they each learned about nutrition. THey also got a healthy meal/snack and played a fun activity as families in order to help them stay fit and healthy. So....I guess I'll stop here for now. If you have any questions, please let me know. I absolutely LOVE FCS and can't wait to teach it to my future students! :)

Posted - Jun 05 2007 : 11:53:08 PM Welcome!! And so glad you found a group for you!! I do so know what you mean about your Dh online for sports!! Over here my Dh gets most of his info online *sigh* But thats ok, I have my precious farm!! (that would be here!) I was interested that you mentioned Family and consumer science, I hope to get my PhD in that one day! What is your area of specialization? I am asuming you took it in NM? I am working toward my BS in Interior Design now and onto my Masters in Education then hope to go onto a PhD in FCS with my focus on aging. Of course since I am a full time mommy I may get my focus in aging the natural way while I get my degree but thats ok, I love to learn! Would love to hear more about your expierence with the degree and all. Anyway, I look forward to getting to know you better as I see you 'round! Hugz! Talitha
