Giday my name is Shirley Sue I found this site by accident when I was searching for stiching instructions! Even though I have browsed the internet for 10 years no site has inspired me to chat. So besides the practice post I made, this is my very first post.
I live in Australia with my Hubby and 2 young kids. Presently we live on my husbands family property. My children are the 5th generation to grow up on this farm!
We have also just purchased a farm of our own 270 acres of scrub country covered in lantana (a weed in Australia). We have blisters on our hands from trying to keep the weed at bay! the kookaburras arn't the only ones laughing at our attepmts! When I'm not digging out lantana and the kids are giving me quite time (rare moments)I enjoy paper crafts. And yes I have koalas and kangaroos in my back yard!

Sorry that photo was a little large. Let's see if I have it right this time. This photo should have the plane in the background so you can see more of our farm.

You are right Particia, it is freezing here at the moment. The temperature has hardly risen above 60. Even during the middle of the day. That's cold by Australian standards. Also has been very windy. which caused a bit of excitment on the farm yesterday. A light aircraft had to make an emergancy landing in the middle of our field! His engine cut out when he hit turbulence. He just missed power lines and a cattle trough. Very lucky bloke.

Hello Holly, nice to meet you. The lantana we have in Australia was introduced by the English when they settled in Australia over 200 years ago. They bought it over as a garden plant. It just thrived in the hot enviroment and now is a weed that covers most of the country. We actually still sell it in nurseries here too, but it has a sterile seed now. I'm not sure if they have made the seed sterile in other countries. A bit more about my self you ask. Well, I enjoy card making and am just starting out in scrapbooking. I am a bit of a bargin hunter and you will often find me in thrift stores or garage sales trying to scout out a treasure. I like to garden ,well thats a bit of an untruth. I like to have a garden but they are lots of work.

Shirley Sue,
I am so glad you found this web site. You will love it, it can be addictive. This is the only website that I have chosen to "chat" on. I always thought that it was a waste of time, boy was I wrong. This is a wonderful website with the most wonderful people you would ever want to meet. Hey, about that lantana, I work at a greenhouse part time (the best job in the world) and I stumbled across some Dallas Red Lantana that is the most beautiful, heat resistant flower I have ever seen. Is it the same stuff you talk about being a weed? I can't imagine it being a weed, I am used to the most awful thistles for weeds, that I would love for the lantana that we have to grow as a weed. Tell us more about what you enjoy doing.

Holly

Thank you all for the warm welcome. A special hello to Jayne. It is nice to know there are other Aussies on this forum. Our farms are on the out skirts of Brisbane QLD. The family property is very pretty 160 acres of fertile ground. We run up to 80 head of beef cattle on it. It has a rocky creek running through it that the kids love to explore on hot summer days. I will try to post some pics soon.

Shirley,
I love your user name. I understand about not joining any chat groups. This one is very uplifting, like talking across a fence. Here we talk across lots of miles, but have a network of friends.
Your farm for 5 generations is a awesome. Lots of work I am sure. Getting to here from an Aussie and learn from you sounds wonderful.
Carol Sue

Enjoying the moments.

How neat that you are on a family farm that has covered so many generations..what a wonderful tradition to pass to your kids too!!
It will be fun to get to know you here!!

Hi Shirley,
Just had to greet a fellow Aussie! Good not to be the only one (there are a few others, but I haven't seen them posting for a while).
I am currently living in Albany in WA, but am originally from Victoria and we are moving back home at the end of the year (fingers crossed). We moved here for hubby's work, but airfares back to visit family are just too expensive. Would love to hear more about your farm - whereabouts are you, if you would like to let us know?
We only live on a small block here, but when we move back are looking for a property - although we are newbies, not like you guys!!
Best wishes and gidday mate!
