Good afternoon! I'm new to the site but farmgirls-?--been one since I moved from Houston,Texas to a remote, only accessible by cable-drawn ferry, section of land(360 acres) in the southern most parish,in Louisiana, in 1970. Was that a mouthful ,or what?

I was 12;I still live in Louisiana, slightly north of Gum Cove, in Calcasieu Parish- or "RITA Redone".
Since the late 70's the ferry has been done away with. When we moved in there were only 2 families south of the ferry-never did get to know them. Too much "farm stuff" goin on!
My mom was the original "Farmgirl" in my life and she definitely passed it on to me!
I married the love of my life at 16, and am happy to report 33 years, five kids and seven grandkids, later that I found the only farmboy in the world that was for me!! (Yes he worked on a ranch from 12 until 20.) Unlike me, he raised animals for show, etc. and did all the "farmy"stuff I loved and still do! I just watched my mom do all that-you know how teenagers are!

My life is so full and complex I hesitate- but here's a snapshot of now.
I have homeschooled all 5 kids(23 yrs in all)- have only 2 teens left at home- one 13 & one 17. The grown ones 31,26 & 21 are happily raising their own broods all over the country.
We live in the woods, I quilt, embroidery, lead a ladies prayer group for some of the finest ladies I have ever known, upkeep a family & friends website and love pictures, stories.

My daughter in law gave me the MJ book and I felt like Maryjane was an old friend. Bought several for my"farmgirl" friends too.
Thats enough about me.
Autumn
P.S. This IS the middle of nowhere where I moved,Gum Cove, when I was 12. Ill post a pic of home now later.

I understand the "Finals" thing, I was late in going to college and it was probably a good thing, I would probably have never sat long enough for what I now know it takes for finals. Ugh...I did enjoy the classes except for MATH..Mostly psychology and sociology..

Id love to see your Green Acres- We lost our guest house in Rita. Havent had the heart to start repairs seriously.
I keep looking for a spot where pics posted.
I did some on my first few pages but havent seen many others.
Think I'll post one of me-as part of my introduction and maybe others will do the same.

Hi, Autumn! South Louisiana is a beautiful place, in spite of the Ritas and Katrinas! I love visiting there, especially all the old Plantation homes. Wish my Green Acres-style farmhouse resembled them just a little closer! But, in all honesty, I did get a piece of the south with my home -- it's two sharecropper houses put together, taken off a cotton field in Shreveport. So, I'll be happy with the small things! Glad you're here!

Breaux Bridge?! We stayed at a B&B there that was just lovely!!
Not much to do except relax- but that's what we were looking for!
Good food too. The B&B was an old schoolhouse they moved and renovated- there were about 5 little cottages. Each was a different theme. Very nice place!
Tks for the welcome!

Autumn, I grew up on the border of England and Wales in a town called Oswestry (if you want to look at a map) legend has it that St. Oswald lost his arm in battle there and where it fell a tree grew. Ergo; Oswald's tree (Oswestry). This is Welsh sheep country and a beautiful part of the UK. When I was 13 we moved to Northampton (country girl becomes city chick!) which is about 60 miles north of London. My husband is from the US and was stationed over there in the Air Force in the mid 80's. We met at a Metallica/Bon Jovi concert (Monster's Of Rock 1987!) and married 2 weeks later! This Septemeber will be our 20th anniversary! Crazy huh!! I love sharing my story just for the shock value but also it always make people smile. Things like this really do happen! However, we are the exception and not the norm!
Thank-you by the way on your insight into a bible group. I am 'teetering' on the fence about it but want to make sure that the Lord is leading that way and that it is just not just me on a power trip! I wonder what sort of imput we would get if I started a 'Christian Farmgirls topic? Share scripture, testimony's etc. Books we have read. By the way, I love your title 'Discussion Manager' Made me smile.
Hope you have a good week. Feel free to e-mail me to my addy any time.
Angie.
