Posted - Jul 31 2007 : 08:50:37 AM It's been so long since I've been on the forum, that I can't remember if I introduced myself. I've been "farmgirling" a bunch over the past year since we moved from suburban Atlanta to the middle of the Central Rockies in Colorado. My background is in fine arts education and administration, but my heart has always had a "rural sensibility" and I find myself feeling more at home and at ease, here in the middle of nowhere, than I ever did running to and fro back in Atlanta. I grew up in the Denver area and spent much time in Western Kansas on my relatives farms, ranches and in their small towns. I'm SO thankful that my dream of living a "farmgirl" lifestyle in rural America is finally coming true.
I started a farmgirl chapter a year ago....but because I was new to the area and trying to get settled we are just now getting started. However, I've been spending my time reviving skills I had forgotten about and learning new ones that I had only dreamed about previously. I homeschool our children. We have four boys. Two are college age and two are still at home.....so when I'm not homeschooling, hiking, backpacking or camping, I like to crochet, can, freeze, do needlework and sewing etc. I'm not an expert by any means, but I do love doing it.
We've grown from just a dog and a cat when we arrived......to adding two horses, 12 chickens, 2 Angora rabbits (for their wool) a barn cat and a new kitten.....and of course, the chicken coop and barn that had to be built to accommodate our growing "family".
I would love to hear from anyone...but especially from someone in Colorado and specifically in the Central Colorado area.
Faith and Courage,
Lori |

Posted - Aug 01 2007 : 05:08:44 AM Hi, Lori! Sounds like you have a great life! I may have to talk to you more about your angora rabbits. I'm a weaver-in-training, and my mom has offered me her old spinning wheel. I've thought about raising angoras for their wool, but don't feel quite ready to take that step. Still, I'm interested in learning all I can about them. Do you just sell the wool or spin it? Oh, WELCOME BACK! |

Posted - Jul 31 2007 : 12:49:26 PM Welcome Lori. Where in central CO do you live? My mother lives in Monte Vista, CO in the San Luis Valley in southern CO. We go out there about once a year to see her. I went to college at Adams State in Alamosa, CO back in "65. Love, love CO. We live in Custer, SD, so we aren't that far from CO at all.
Glad to have you on board. You'll learn a lot and have a ton of fun.
Peace and love. Annie |
