I don't know if you've ever heard of a military woman who's also a FarmGirl at heart, but here is one that would like to say Hello!

A little about me: My name is Junette, but I prefer to be called Jay. I'm 23 and am a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, currently serving in Iraq. This is my second tour to this country. My family hails from Haiti, and I was born in Orlando, Florida.

I've been a FarmGirl all my life, but I did not fully acknowledge it until this year and now it won't be suppressed! I'm very interested in organic farming, homesteading, and farming with draft horses.

Welcome aboard, Jay. You're off to a great start - lofty ambitions and the willingness to go after them. And this is truely the right place for you. We hope to hear more about your life over there as well as your plans for your homestead. You sound very resourceful. There is so much here at MJF that you'll be able to use in the future and there are a lot of us who will be willing to answer any questions you have.

And as the others have said, I too appreciate your service to our country and salute you with pride in doing a second tour of duty. I bless you and send thoughts of prayers for your safe and swift return. God bless.

Peace and love,
Annie

Well, kiddo, those ambitions will keep you busy for a while!! You sound like a resourceful young woman who knows where she's going and how to get there. It brings my faith in today's youth to a higher level. It's hard to look around and see all the violence and nonsense. then there are young people like you. God bless.

When will you be leaving Iraq? we can get your address through the email system here at the post. We can just email you and you can email us back with the address. If you want. As you said, it's all good. Farmgirls like to share especially with other farmgirls.

love,
Patricia

Wow! FarmGirls from all over the world, newbies and salties! How amazing and comforting to know that there are women out there whose hearts still cling to the tried-and-true principles and honors of being a FarmGirl! I'm warmed by your farmgirl welcomes; I truly appreciate it! I'll try to answer a few of the questions y'all had:

1. I found out about MaryJane while I was stationed in North Carolina looking for an Organic Farm to volunteer on. MaryJane's PayDirt School came up as one of the first few options on Google and the rest is history!

2. I can't post my address on a public forum like this, but I do appreciate all the offers for sending me stuff out here. It's all good, 'cause I'm leaving this place pretty soon anyhow.

3. Yes, as soon as I get the money saved up to purchase the land cash (half-way there), I'm going to start homesteading when I leave the service. While I'm enlisted, though, I'm gonna work on securing those skills that a homesteader needs to know: cooking, carpentry, canning, cheese/icecream/yogurt-making, pickling, midwifin', first aid, knitting, sewing, crocheting, animal care, driving draft horses, plowin', harrowin', plantin'... the whole she-bang. I'm probably just going to start out with a garden with chickens, rabbits, a pig, and a milk cow, though. We'll see!

Anyway, thanks again for the warm welcome!
:)

Big farmgirl welcome to you Jay!! We all thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your bravery and what you are doing for our country!! I'm really interested in homesteading too and I love draft horses. We live by a living history farm and there is a big plowing contest there on labor day weekend. Teams come from all over the east coast. You and all your buddies over there stay safe. We'll be praying for you. Just let us know if there is anything we can do for all of ya!!!

Welcome to our little piece of heaven.
Youll enjoy this Mary Jane chat place and there's something of interest for everyone here.
so glad you had time to post a intro.
We will all love to keep up with you. Let us know how you are and know you are in our thoughts and prayers.
THANK YOU is not even close to enough to express how much I appreciate your willingness to serve.
My son was in the army - served a while back in Bosnia.
All my best.
Also draft horses are cool. My sister and her husband used to raise Belgians. The are truly gentle giants.
Let us know how we can help with any answers to questions about farm life.

Welcome Jay. One of my blogs and certainly my My Spaces have to do with military and issues about them. Good ones that is. The site is called America and it has a few resources in it. You may get to it through my listed blogs here.
I can see a farm girl getting into the military for sure as the work either way is similar and disciplined.
Glad to get to know you,
Pauline
