Hello to all the farmgirls! I found this only a few days ago, I got my pasta sauce to simmer and started surfing. I'm in heaven! I have been looking for something new make me WOW! Saturday, August 18th, will be my final day as a small business owner. I have a gently used clothing shop here in Madison. Sadly, Madison isn't big enough to keep me going. At least I won't go through life regretting not doing this. I have enough to keep me busy chasing two kids around. I run a craft show here in town and will start getting that together. Life never slams the door without opening the coal shoot. |

Posted - Aug 22 2007 : 05:52:41 AM Hi, Aimee! I had to laugh when I saw your 'tips and tricks' for disaster. Although our self-owned business isn't NEAR as fun as yours or some others I can think of, I do agree with you. We bought the business from my dh's father, and, let's just say having him 'help' out around the shop could be a challenge at best! So, what are your plans now? Let us know!

Posted - Aug 20 2007 : 8:40:15 PM Aimee, Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you will fit right in. I am sorry about your business, you seem to have a better attitude about it than me. We are in the process of shutting our business down as well. I can't explain the emotions. Good luck in any new adventure you take on and fill us in alittle more about what you are going to be doing now.
God Bless, Holly |

Posted - Aug 20 2007 : 09:23:37 AM Well, today is our second wedding anniversary. My husband and I have been together for four years and married for two. I did the wedding myself, decorate, flowers, food and even the cake. Once I sit down figure out the picture hosting I' sticking them in. I didn't do the dresses, I got them cheeper that it would cost to make them. Do I love a good deal! I saved all kinds of dresses from the store for the fabric. We are taking off for a romantic day. |

Posted - Aug 20 2007 : 08:23:03 AM This reminds me of a written book title before, "If Life is a Bowl of Cherries, Why am I always in the pits?" I am thinking it was Héloise, but who knows, I liked the quote..

Posted - Aug 19 2007 : 7:46:46 PM Well, I am finally out of the store. I sucked the floor for the last time. I place is actually cleaner now that when I moved in! My tips tricks and recipes for disaster are as follows... Don't employ family...stending that much time with my mother reminded me why I moved out! With clothes, buy them outright...Consignment is too much paperwork for the money you make. You can't please even half the people, then I realized I don't have to. My regular customer loved the store. I had lake people from Sioux Falls that came in for the summer and where telling me I should move the store down there. I wouldn't want drive an hour everyday. |

Posted - Aug 19 2007 : 01:51:42 AM Bonjour again, Aimee! My great grandfather was born in the Normandy region of France (famous for camembert cheese) and left for the US, also. Life threw me a French twist, and I married a French guy two and a half years ago, so now we divide our time between my home in Virginia and his in southern France. And we have a lovely French farmgirl here on the forum, named Corinne. Welcome again, and looking forward to getting to know you better! Have a great day. Nance |

Posted - Aug 18 2007 : 3:16:53 PM Aimee, hope your last day was a good one. But I'm sure it was hard to close up shop.
Every March and June I drive up I-29 to Fargo/Moorehead to baby sit the grandkids for a week for my daughter. Maybe next time I go up we could meet for coffee/tea/sandwich/whatever. Just so glad to find another S.D. farm girl.
Peace and love, Annie |

Posted - Aug 17 2007 : 8:15:08 PM Yes, the name is french. My great grand parents on my father's all immigrated from France. My uncle is a French teacher in Minneapolis and did a year in France on an exchange. He loved it!He says anyone with the opportunity should jump on it. Tommorrow is the last day for my store. I have every emotion to go with it. I am doing the pickles now. I do a mix of pints and quarts. I cut them differently and different strenghts of seasoning. It keeps it interesting. Madison is 30N and 18W of Sioux Falls. Only about 7,000 people. |

Posted - Aug 17 2007 : 09:37:08 AM Welcome Aimee from a fellow South Dakotan! I think we must be the only two who are members. I posted a note on "Across the Fence" to see if I'd get any responces from anyone here in the state. Got a note from someone who "use" to live in Hermosa. I know I've heard of Madison. But tell me where you are in relation to the southern Black Hills where I live.
You definetly sound like a farm girl. Check out all the different forums - there's so much to learn and to share as well. You'll love it here. Enjoy.
