Posted - Sep 04 2007 : 1:15:34 PM Hi all! I am Val. Mama of three and husband to the greatest guy in the world and a small Urban farmer from Olympia, Washington. I have a little inner city (neighborhood) homestead type outfit. :) I really enjoy being as self sustainable as possible, but am never opposed to making a bit of money with my ideas and creativity. ;) I don't have big asperations or dreams... just a little place, where I can grow a bunch of food for winter and have apple, plum, hazelnut, and peach trees around here. I am working on perfecting my food storing skills, only keeping what we need and using it with in the year we can/freeze it is a big one for me. I don't want to store food forever... I recently helped my dad move and found food my mom had canned from 1989... one of my main goals is to NEVER do that. lol!
Right now I am in applesauce mode. I am an organic food buff, but what I really enjoy is FREE organic food. lol... We forage quite a bit from the areas around us, and even though we are in the city there are lots full of blackberries and around my daughter soccer field we found some cloudberries. :)
Here is my blog, http://goddesshobbies.blogspot.com/ I see that there are quite a few bloggers among us. :) I look forward to getting to meet you all... now I must go make lunch for my clan. ;)

Posted - Sep 06 2007 : 07:52:37 AM HI KATIE!! I know you too...
I would love to meet up with the farm girls in the Oly Area... that would be wonderful... just let me know the day and I will add it to my calander. I am a homeschooling boyscout mama, so I do have a calander and it fills up. lol... But it would be wonderful to get together and perhaps even start a chapter if you all want. I mean, afterall it just means that we get to get together regularly.
I already love it here. Yes, I finished some applesauce last night, and through my daughters homeschool art class today I am going to be doing more. We are doing art with food today. SO much fun! Hoagie roll boats and cars, pretzel stick wands, banana rockets, round cracker turkeys, yes yes... fun stuff. I am sure it will be a day I... well I gain 5 lbs. lol!
Email me about the Oly Chapter of farm girls. I would be thrilled to get something like that started with ya'll.
Very happy to be here... thank you all for the beautiful welcome!
Val
