Posted - Oct 22 2007 : 11:01:17 AM You are soooo right, in todays "world" when what little time we have left after working, both inside & out in the work force, we seem to have "lost" our "neighborhood gatherings", our coffe & tea clatches, chatting over hanging laundry or meeting at a friends house for Bridge, etc. Yes, MJF has provided us w/a way to do that via the internet, to stay connected. I too love the wonderful tips from all these lovely ladies and have made some wonderful friendships along the way, some near by that I can met up with and others by email & telephone girl chats. So jump in & have a blast. Oh, by-the-by, how lucky to live in a vintage home, if only walls could talk, the stories & history yours could tell. Someday you will have to post a pic. farmgril hugz & blessing to you.

Posted - Oct 22 2007 : 05:27:54 AM Goodmorning Grace, You'll be happy to hear that the welcome was the bright spot (God's perfect timing) in my morning. I had been awakened by the sound of something chewing on wood, either in the wall or ceiling above me; 10' ceilings makes it sort of echo. Probably our 1st mouse of the season as we've had our 1st cool weather recently...(mice are not uncommon in old houses here in the south). I live in a rural area, the fields behind our house are sugarcane, the house is a 100 yr old cypress structure & one or two mice manage to find their way in every year. Then some sort of gnat swarmed me @ the desk as I booted up the computer...all of this just the devil trying to discourage me. So when I saw your welcome, believe me it couldn't have come at a better time! Thanks Grace. You're so right; the ladies here ARE wonderful and talented. I value the inspiration I glean from reading the posts, visiting blogs and etsy's. This must be something vital to women, to have this interaction, to be able to connect with other women with similar values, because there are soooo many women (even internationally) that are members on this site. That speaks to me about how important our relationships are. This site provides a means to communicate; the way women of our ancestor's, and more recent generations did...over the fence or like one of MaryJane's forums...the Garden Gate. Chatting with our neighbors and community involvement, sewing circles, knit-clubs and card-clubs (bridge and so on) was the norm, & now it's less and less common except in this long-distance cyber world. This type of site means we can still have those vital connections...I guess that's what MaryJane's been trying to convey with her books and so on. I just feel so blessed by all of you. So Grace, you'll understand when I say again that your welcome couldn't have come at a better time! Have a blessed day Grace, Chandra

Posted - Oct 16 2007 : 3:42:40 PM Hi Linda,
Thanks for the welcome. I'm a farmer's grandaughter; love what my grandparents represented, emulate what I can from them, MaryJane, and all the wonderful "farm girls" here on the site. Looking forward to many more chats and especially looking forward to the day when I can attend a Farm Fair. My step-son lives in Wenatchee, WA so my DH & I are thinking about 2008's Farm Fair @ the Old Mill & making it an all-inclusive vacation...God willing. What a thrill!
I'll watch for your posts Linda. Take care, Chandra

Posted - Oct 16 2007 : 1:14:00 PM Hi, Chandra, from yet another Louisiana farm girl. Welcome to the group. I've talked to a couple of the other LA girls, and we thought we might try to meet after the first of the year. Three of us live in the Northwest and a few live down South, so we thought we would post something in January to see how many of us there really are, and how many want to meet. We'll try to meet somewhere in the middle, (Baton Rouge, maybe?). I hope you can join us. Just email me if you have any ideas. And any other La. girls who are reading this, feel free to give me your input too!

Posted - Oct 16 2007 : 07:27:46 AM hi there chandra: i'm learning how to do this??? so, if some "moose-hunting girl in montana" gets this instead of chandra, please let me know! anyway, i moved up here from florida and remember those cute little one's: frances, ivan, jeanne, and of course wilma! they all went right over my head, as if there was a bulls-eye on my house! anyway, you sound pretty busy. i love to bake and cook (that's how i got hooked on mj's) but otherwise, i am sad to say, i don't really have talent in the other farm girl areas. i'm hoping that i can learn a few things..... |

Posted - Oct 16 2007 : 06:44:31 AM Hi Lainey, Goodmorning! I've had my cappuccino and watched the fog roll in this morning; temperatures are cooler and I just love days like this. Kentucky brings to mind such romantic & idyllic images of rolling country hills & horses grazing...wonder what it's like where you are. Welcome to you too...what a wonderful way to connect with other women who believe in this lifestyle. Hope we have the chance to become better acquainted... Chandra

Thanks so much for the welcome. Linda, You're practically "next door". My M-I-L lives in Lk Chls. Are you a involved in a chapter & if so, which one? I was looking through the LA list and didn't see any towns I'm familiar with. Would love to participate somehow though. Hope to get better acquainted with all these wonderful ladies on this site. Great to make your acquaintance.
Carol Sue, it's easy to get caught-up in the posts and forget everything for a while...that can really be a blessing now and then. Wonderful to make your acquaintance. I'll look for your posts too!

Posted - Oct 15 2007 : 11:21:55 AM Hello Autumn, Denise and Jenny... Wow...I am blessed...thanks for the welcome! Autumn, I must tell you it's my husband that was born & reared in Louisiana; Baton Rouge. He was away in Colorado for 17/18 yrs. which is where we met. We've been in Louisiana for 10 yrs. I'm a transplant and for me, it's been a difficult transition, but I've learned to dearly love where we live, the culture and the food (of course).
Denise, it was the organic farmer I buy all my goat's milk and most of my produce (that's gonna change when we get our raised bed's goin') that gave me the book I mentioned. She's in her late 30's & has 10 adopted children. Her husband chose their lifestyle after a stint in the military and some travel, they settled down and chose to farm like her husbands grandparents. A hard but rewarding life, and she's been quite an example of the "proverbial" woman. Anyway...all we can do is try to follow the example. Failure is a given, but we continue on...and there are victories also.
Jenny...I've read somany of your posts. Thanks so much for sharing all you do. I think they need a new title when you've posted more than 5000 times...We'll have to come up with a special badge for that. I'm trying to remember if it's your posts that show pictures of a cow? To sweet! Anyway, I just love this site and I am looking forward to getting to know more about all of you in the future.
Have any of you been to the 4th of July activities in Idaho? I'd love to be directed to the posts that discuss your adventures. Thanks again for the welcome. Chandra

Posted - Oct 14 2007 : 4:36:48 PM Hi Chandra! Welcome to the forum. I am knowns as levigrammy here and am also known as Mom to CRshelpmeet. I have read Debi's book several times as it helps me to get back on track when I get away from what I know God has intended for me to be and do. I don't think there is anyone who agrees with everything in it, but I glean what I can and leave the rest. It is nice to know there are others who are trying to fulfill similar roles as helpmeets to their husbands. Honestly, I fail more often than not in this area but with God's help and His mercies which are new every morning I am grateful that I can start again. This is a wonderful forum and I have learned much from these ladies. There is much creativity flowing here and many helpful ideas. Looking forward to getting to know you. Denise

Posted - Oct 14 2007 : 2:45:03 PM Hi Chandra, Yep, Ive definitly heard of that book. As a matter of fact, I own it! lol..small world!~ You certainly do have to read that book with Scriptures in hand. I know some of things I agreed with, but some of it, I think was more her personal preference type thing. I haven't read it quite some time. My mom gave it to me shortly after dh and I got married. I whole-heartedly believe we wives are intended to be our husband's helpmeets. The whole point in getting married is so that we can improve our callings in Christ better having that other person with us. My calling: to help my husband be the most dynamic man of God he can and to raise His family in the nuture and admonishion (SP??) of the Lord that I can; freeing him to fulfill whatever it is that God has called him to. I noticed your signature line...had to giggle a little. So nice to see someone else striving to be that "Proverbs 31" woman. Just a little side giggle on that one too....for my engagement ring, my hubby gave me a pearl setting. lol...just hope it will hold true! He said I was his pearl of great price. Boy, now wasn't that something to give your soon to be wife to live up to...lol I remember Katrina. It came through when I was in Florida along with its three other not so nice hurricane friends. So much damage from that. Whole houses just blown away. It was crazy. Thank goodness for God's new every morning mercies! well, I better scoot....babies are calling... Hugs--Jessie

Posted - Oct 14 2007 : 10:50:21 AM Well hello Jessie,
Thank you for the welcome. I've got to admit I've been registered on the site since sometime in 2006 and had a few posts, but kind of got involved in pursuing my educational goals & not much else for a while there. I responded to Cheryl above and WOW...all of a sudden I went from a "Farmgirl @ Heart" to a "Farmgirl in Training" with my 1oth post...so this is fun. I'm well on my way to being a "True Blue Farmgirl". We're priviledged to have a wonderful site to interact with such inspired women! I'm looking forward to earning my patches (miss my girl-scouting days) and I really want to pull out MaryJane's apron patterns and get busy with my 1st apron. I hang out much of my wash, we have a compost pile (with it's own volunteer tomato plant) & I have a sweet potager herb garden. We just tore down our two 100 yr old garage & shed (Katrina-Rita damaged beyond repair) so I have cypress boards to build my 1st raised-bed veggie garden. The compost has been making itself ready for a while now and I'm excited to build the beds now for next spring.
I wanted to ask you about your screen-name - CRshelpmeet. A friend of mine gave me the most wonderful book by Debi Pearl called Created to be His Help Meet. Have you ever heard of it? I don't agree w/every point Debi makes, but she certainly opened my heart to God's intended role and how much life improves when we aspire to follow His plan. Your name makes me want to know if you share that same belief. Anyway, wonderful to make your acquaintance Jessie. I'll watch for your posts.

Posted - Oct 14 2007 : 09:37:08 AM Hi Cheryl, Thank you for the welcome, it's nice to meet you also. I love your "signature"...it's how I start each morning. I'll have to check for your name and read over some of your posts...I look forward to being a "True Blue Farmgirl" someday. I see you're in CA. I lived in Seaside, Marina, Union City and San Leandro ober a stretch of about 7 years. Then back to Colorado (my parents & siblings are still there) Now my DH & I are in a rural (lthough becoming less so) area in Louisiana. How about you? How did you find out about MaryJane? I saw her book in a book-club flier, bought the book and have been enjoying the influences she's shared ever since. Hope to hear from you again & I'll watch for you in the forums.
