What a wonderful 'pioneer spirit' the Farmgirl Connection is! I somewhat introduced myself in a response to Kay from Kentucky .. don't see it posted yet .. but see hot flames shooting up beside her posting (which i guess is my response to her). Soooooo .. i won't repeat it all .. but am excited to check in from time to time to see what other 'farmgirls' are up to! Frannie .. Cabin Creek Farm - Kentucky

The Encyclopedia of Country Living by Carla Emery.

I will definitely search for it (i am a book-a-holoic!) I did read a post that she had gone on to heaven .. but wasn't sure who she was. I adore Mary Jane's book! (wish she'd do a 'martha stewart' type tv show for us all!) Frannie

Frannie,
I wrote a little message to you in Kay in KY's intro page, and had mentioned Carla Emery's book to her there. You asked about it - it's The Encyclopedia of Country Living by Carla Emery. Every farmgirl needs it!

ROFL,,,, way to go girl ... nothing like making an impression. I got a taste of it when I was shopping at a Menonite store and realized I was the only woman there not in a dress and apron-I was wearing shorts no less...felt a little out of place. I am not ready for a prayer cap yet but I will wear more dresses here than I did in the city.

thanks for yer sweet words gurlfren ... i am pretty much a 'whirling dervish' around these parts! and i've managed to make quite a reputation for myself already .. that first cold winter down here .. i locked myself out of the cabins (in the snow) .. and in my 'underoos' .. i was racing around barefooted from door to door and window to window .. finally had to run up the hill as fast as my frozen tootsies would allow .. and knock on a neighbo'rs door .. she appeared with a cup of hot coffee in her hand .. she saw me comin'! and then there was the time i hurried outside in the early morning to run the puppies to the woods to do their 'biznezz' .. and .. yes! i was only wearing my boots, wonder woman underpants and t-shirt .. when out of the corner of my eye .. i caught the vision of three men staring in disbelief at this wild wanton washington woman .. and it turned out to be my neighbor's preacher-man, his father and teen-age son .. come to cut the grass for me! i don't think my legs ever moved as fast as they did that morning as i FLEW back into the house .. got on the phone and immediately called my neighbor (who was my guardian angel my first year here alone!) and told her that unfortunately, she was going to have to change churches 'cuz i had just flashed her preacher and his entire male family!

the rest of the summer .. she called to warn me to put some clothes on when she saw his truck heading my way!
