Autumn is here with just a sparkling hint of winter in the air. I can see snow covering the tip of Mt. Spokane, which always makes me very happy. I love the change in the seasons. I have been completely out of touch these last few months. Tidying up the gardens, freezing and canning has taken up most of my time. No complaints, mind you, it is one of my favorite things to do, but now that things are calming down somewhat, I'm enjoying a few more quiet moments! I was wondering if there are some local people (spokane area) out there interested in setting up a holiday bazaar, selling handmade things. Trust me when I say, I have no plan, no vision, and no idea where to start, I'm just in the gathering information stage. I would love to find an intimate setting where a handful of farmgirls can get together, and sell our hand-made goods. Does anyone have any local connections to coffee houses, art galleries etc, that could be rented for an evening or 2?? I've also considered hosting it myself in my home somehow.. I am really just throwing out ideas, as I said, wondering if there's any interest whatsoever.. Let me know.. In the meantime, enjoy the changing weather!! Getting re-connected here has certainly put a gigantic smile on my face.. Many warm hellos to Carol, Cindylou, Dory, Julie, Meg and Mary Jane..ps: my farm fair experience was still the highlight of my summer..thank you so very much!!
Blessings, Julia

yeah, a last initial might be a good idea, I have thought I should do the same. But confusion seems like a lot more fun!
For the bazaar I am doing, I am making childrens aprons, beaded bookmarks and maybe some wool felt needle cases. I couldn't sleep last night so I got all the aprons cut out. Now all I need is some none stop sewing time, if there is such a thing. I guess I need a few more sleepless nights. :)

Hi Julia and Julia from Oregon! I'm the other Julia from Oregon! Sorry...just couldn't resist! LOL I think I'll add the initial of my last name to my profile...that might help keep us straight, LOL.

Hi Oregon Julia! So nice to be re-connected here! Please tell me more about the show you're putting together. Eileen gave me some incredible tips and ideas from her experiences. Currently, I don't sell much of anything, but I try to sell hand-made clothes. I've been trying to put together some kind of portfolio so I can show the different styles I tend to sew for women and girls. I recently finished a 'work shirt' for my husband that turned out really nice. Its very basic, made from denim. I'm tinkering with the pattern a little so I can add some loops here and there for holding tools, gloves and what-nots.. My little girl dresses are made mostly from 60's patterns that my mother-in-law gave me. I'm working on sewing more skirts and petticoats for women.. I also all kinds of hand-sewing/stitching, which is a real love. I'm also working on making baby and doll scrap quilts. I'm working with a girlfriend of mine in Baker City who had sheep at one time and had her wool made into huge pieces of batting. There's a local sheep farmer near me and I've been in contact with him to do the same. I just don't have any idea how to separate the wool..still working on that one. Ah, the farmgirl life..something always simmering on the back-burner! Thanks for getting in touch. I'm off to greet the day. My children and I are meeting up with my husband later for a rare spontaneous lunch date. VERY exciting!!
Loads of smiles and blessings to you,
Julia

HI Julia! this is the first post of yours that I have seen. Glad to have you on board! We are really going to confuse people as there are 3 Julias here. I am getting busy for a christmas bazaar next month with a friend. What do you sell?

Julie and Bobbie,
I did a home holiday show with 12 ladies for 12 years in the Bremerton area. This is exactly the time when we decided to do it and even with really bad weather the weekend of our show we had enough interest generated that we made some money and decided to make it an annual thing. If you want any tips on how we got started just e-mail me direct from the site here and I will share some of my first hand getting started info. I think it is too involved for a single post here.It is a really fun but intense thing to do.

Welcome back Julia! If you do set up something this year, be sure to let us know - I'd make a trip to Spokane for that! We loved meeting you and your family at Farm Fair. We got some great photos of you and your daughter - did you ever see those? If not, write to me and I'll send you copies.

Have a great day!
Carol

Bobbi, sounds GREAT!! I would love to join the Spokane chapter..how do I sign up? I think planning for next year is ideal..like I said, I just wanted to explore interest and see if we can set up something 'homey' and intimate..keep me posted of the chapter and how I can be of any support.. I am off to great this beautiful Spokane day.. Time to get ready for preschool! Many smiles, Julia

Hi Julia!

I am the fledgling leader of the Spokane Chapter of farmgirls. I just got started 3 days ago so I haven't had a meeting or recruited any members yet, but the holiday bazaar sounds like a great idea. I don't know that we will have time to set something like that up for this year with Thanksgiving rearing it's head already, but I think it would be a great goal to start on now so we can be ready to do it next year.

By that time the chapter should be going well with plenty of members who can contribute. We can make that one of our annual or even biannual events if you are interested.

Let me know what you think!

Bobbi
