Michelle, we currently live on about 1 1/2 acres (if you can believe this) right across from a small commercial dairy...and witness some of the same things you mention in your post to Julia H. I wouldn't drink their milk..raw or pasteurized! Anyway, I live on the same road as the Hedricks..about 3 miles south. Have a organic garden, chickens and lots of "porch" cats. We have a sale pending on our place..and soon hope to move to our new place "Rosehaven"..a cabin/cottage on 6 acres/with creek..about 10 miles north!! We will be starting over from scratch!! Garden, animals, etc., but are really planning to Simplify....but who knows..might have a chance to have my own Jersey...I did used to have dairy goats a long time ago. Anyway..hope our paths will cross! Have you read Sally Fallon's book "Nourishing Traditions? Or "The Milk Book" by Douglas Campbell, M.D.? Great books about Raw milk and fermented foods. GB Mumsie

What is your family up to in Valley? I have some friends that live there. The Hedricks.

Welcome, Mumsie! My son long ago nicknamed me 'Mumshy', coming from a cartoon cat's name for his mum. Snowden Cottage is so evocative. . . have a wonderful Christmas there, and looking forward to sharing more with you and all the other farmgirls in the new year. KL
