Posted - Jan 08 2006 : 5:03:51 PM Wow I am so excited to meet all of you! I have been addicted to Mary Jane and the farmgirl connection for about 6 months. I picked up the magazine as I needed some new interesting reading material. I loved it! Lived in it and of course wanted to know more about Mary Jane. I bought "The book". I love it!
I have so enjoyed all of your company , thoughts and ideas. It is so refreshing!
My name is Theresa, I have been married for 14 years and I have two wonderful sons (8) and (6). I am so excited at the idea of raising two future men, husbands, fathers. I am thirty-three and most of the time wish I was in better health. I come from a big fat Italian family, need I say more....
I am truly only a wanna be farmgirl. We have a cottage of a house on .25 of an acre.(funnyI am .25 farmgirl. Love to be 100%! almost blank slate when we bought a year ago. 6 Fruit trees lining the fence along one side. Oh yes and 1lilac bush or two. I love gardening I love flowers and vegetables, can't wait to start my square foot garden and try out the lasangna gardening. As far as my front yard, can't wait to say Good bye to the nicley manicured lawn, yuck. I do all the yard work and it is no fun to spend my time mowing, I don't feel right about fertilizer, I have an uncle who grew up on a golf course and when he had cancer the Dr. knew he grew up on a golf course , due to the kind of cancer. I can't stand that. I also LOVE textiles. I do sew, I don't like to , I am not a perfectionist (wish I was) so sewing does not come natural. I love fabric so much and creating new things, that I do sew. I have a wonderful friend who has helped me so much. I make quilts and crafting. I have dabbled in crochet and wool projects. I love to be organized. But I have found as life goes on around me, it is hard to keep up. Anyway I can't wait to share my projects , get opinions. And Let me say You all are VERY talented.
I am not the person I was 10 years ago, I knew what my core was , but I had no direction, I am so different from anyone in my family, that it has been hard to really connect. I am so blessed to have found this group (sigh).
I don't subscribe to cable TV, don't own a cell phone and drive a car that is 13 years old. I love thrift stores, junk yards, and garden shops.
We read to the kids read, read, read. I have to say my kids are not the smartest kids in there classes, but let me tell you about there imagination and there ideas. They are amazing. We also listen to alot of music. I started that right away. They don't play any musical instruments at this time. But would love for them as recreation, even if it is a tamborine.
I can be long winded. sorry next time I will try to be short but sweet!

Posted - Jan 09 2006 : 11:45:35 AM Welcome Theresa! My dad was married to an 100% Italian family. When we went to visit them the first time I found out that mash potatoes come from potatoes and not a box! The food was so wonderful that now most my meals have tomatoes in them. My husband beggs me not to cook with it as much as I do! He's not Italian... lol.
It struck me about what you said about yourself..."I am not the person I was 10 years ago, I knew what my core was , but I had no direction.." I can relate to that. Last year I started back to school, did you know that if you take "too" long to get your degree you aren't eligible for financial aide? So my husband and I are paying for my education, one or two classes at a time. AND I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up!
I think if we lived closer our kids would like each other. My kids read, read, and try to kill each other when they aren't reading! My eldest child is 16 and my youngest is 5. Two boys and two girls. I would love to hear more about a lasangna garden.
Oh and I'm BAD about buying fabric. I can't sew to save my life... you should see the outfits I've made my kids. I can't blame them for not wanting to wear them! Right now I have three large totes of fabric and no real knowledge on what to do with them. Sigh.
I hope you have a great day and look forward to reading your posts!

Posted - Jan 08 2006 : 9:06:49 PM Welcome Theresa!! You sound like you are going to fit in here just fine!! I don't think you are longwinded at all..it is so fun to hear all about you and your family. I have boys too (and girls) and love raising them right (to appreciate us women!!!!) I would appear to be from a big fat Italian family (in fact everyone asks me if I am Italian or Greek...I am not even a tiny bit of either) so I would like to be in better shape too, but hey, we are what we are and we do what we can do. So glad you found us!!

Posted - Jan 08 2006 : 8:06:25 PM Hey Theresa and welcome! I also come from an Italian family and definitely got the food-loving gene! Being 25% Italian, you would think it may have skipped me, but like being 25% farmgirl, it's enough to make a difference! I am also not a big fan of manicured lawns, especially when having one means loading on chemicals! Too much lawn is pointless to me when there are so many wonderful flowers, herbs, and veggies to grow! And my front lawn would be perfect grazing space for a few goats, but I don't think the neighbors would be too happy about that! I'd love to hear about some of your sewing projects! I'm still very much a beginner myself. As for finding people to connect with, you've come to the right place! Each and every person on here is truly wonderful! Have a wonderful week! Laura |

Posted - Jan 08 2006 : 8:02:27 PM Oh Theresa, welcome to the connection! You will meet many like minded people here. I just love it, me too, I don't subscribe to cable TV (when would I get a minute to watch it, can't even watch the five or six stations we do get!) don't own a cell phone (this is a blessing - who are all those people talking to anyhow? I think they're faking it), I love thrift stores (I should get a bumper sticker that says "this car stops at all thrift and 2nd hand stores and junkyards). Hope you enjoy the chats and join in when you can. Two sons, how wonderful and lucky you are.
