Hi ladies! I have been cruising around this forum for some time and have already enjoyed many of your helpful hints. I officially joined a couple weeks ago or so and wanted to introduce myself.

I live on five acres in New York and am hoping to slowly turn it into our own little farmstead. Still have to convince my husband to let us get some chicks and hopefully a milking goat someday. We are avid supporters of our local organic CSA/farm where we also get pastured organic beef & pork, as well as free range organic eggs, raw milk & yogurt, etc. I have been seriously scratch cooking and started making own cleaning products, currently am researching making my own beauty and personal care stuff.

I also have a husband that thinks I am a little crazy, but he is really good about going with the flow. I didn't realize it as a child, but I grew up living a pretty organic/green lifestyle. It wasn't called anything then that's just how my mom and grandma did it. I have three kids and one on the way and am hoping to instill this lifestyle in my children! It sure is tough combating peer pressure and modern conveniences though! Looking foward to meeting you all :)

Welcome to the forum, Mandy! I have heard New York State is beautiful, though I have only been in NYC. (Which I loved for the short trip I was there!) It sounds like you have awesome plans for you land!

Hi All. I am new also. I have been looking the site over since I bought the Feb/Mar issue of Mary Janes Farm magazine. I am a city girl married to a country boy in Georgia on a sort of farm. He has had a garden for many years and has a good start on this years. He grows it and I either can it or freeze it.

I did not grown up on a farm but I had relatives in Alabama who owned one. Two wonderful weeks of every summer was spent with them. I have a lot of interests. Along with the canning and freezing, I love to cook, craft, paint, sew, and crochet. I'm always trying new things.

I have had for several years an interest in planting organics. My husband has finally gotten on board. I would love to learn different ways to make hand creams, non-lye soaps and home cleaning products. Anyone have any ideas?

I can't wait to hear from you.

To all you farmgirls...thank you for the warm welcome!

laluna--I am a fellow WNYer. I have lived here most of my life, except for the requisite 90s stint in Raleigh, NC that my entire generation seemed to do! I "imported" my husband from NYC, and he is really enjoying the pace of life here compared to downstate :)

Suzan--I have always wanted to go to Moosewood Restaurant in Ithaca!! I hear the food is amazing :) We vacation some in PA. My husband's family has a place in the Poconos. It is so lovely there.

Welcome Mandy, glad to meet you! I too had grandparents with an organic/green lifestyle, although they didn't call it that either it just was normal farm living to them. I look forward to getting to know you.
