Hi all,
I joined in the fall but with trying to get into farrier school I never quite found the time for this....finally I have the time.I live on a small 3 acre farm with my parents,my brother and I have always dreamed of farming but sadly we don't have the money to start the size operation my brother wants. But I say bloom where your planted...so we have 2 horses,a goat,13 duckes, far to many chickens to count;),and 8 dogs(most of them are my brothers.)I do Parelli with my horses and am working towards becoming a natural farrier.I love this life I couldn't imagine living any other way(I've tried and I hated it.)Well I better get back to work I have to finish fencing the garden.

I am always willing to share my passion with others. The school I am attending is Equine Science Academey, you can look them up online. The idea is to take a whole horse approach to trimming, to not just look at the hooves but the enviroment, nutrition, exersice and overall what the horse is telling you. As for how to trim donkey hooves I have no experience but would think it is much like trimming horses. You always have a wild horse model in mind, trim the hoof wall even with the sole plane and then using the rasp give it a mustang roll. I know I'm not very exacting with that explanation but you can find more at ironfreehoof.com.

I wish I was closer to you too I am always looking for farmgirls who are as passionate about horses as I am.

Hi Michelle, and welcome!
Would love to hear more about your farrier school. I would also love to hear how you would trim a donkey's little round hooves! My little Holly needs a pedicure!

Hi Michelle and Welcome from Idaho. Sure wish you were closer, we could use a gal like you to get a couple of my DH's horses in shape. I'm still looking for my own horse "kid safe", I'm new to riding and too old to want to fall off much if at all.
Great to have you join in.

It's nice to meet you Michelle. I'm in Norfolk, too. But I am somehow stuck--I need to get out and see the beautiful Virginia countryside this spring. It's silly how one doesn't go beyond a certain interstate, like it is a cage! But having a toddler does keep you from wandering too far from home. :)

Welcome! And happy gardening!

Nance in France Posted - Mar 12 2009 : 06:39:18 AM
Bonjour, Michelle! It would be one heck of a "road trip" but I would love to give you a farm gal hug if you ever find yourself in southern France! Save your nickels, it is worth the trip. France in total is beautiful; each region has its charm, and this is truly a blessing to experience life in another country/culture. That being said, however, as Dorothy of Wizard of Oz fame pined, "There's no place like home", and I am really happy to be heading back to Norfolk in four days to enjoy life in my own nest and garden for spring! Hugs to all, Nance

Welcome Michelle. Glad things have slowed down enough for you to log on and say hello. It's wonderful getting to know all these gals here, so you'll have a great time. I live in the south of France a good part of the year, but am heading back to my home in Norfolk, VA in a few days to spend the spring!! Have fun!! Hugs, Nance
