Hi everyone, I've been lurking about for a while now, thought I'd get brave and say Hi.

I just returned to Tenn. after living in Fla. for several years. we found a lovely old house in Englewood. We only have about .25 acre but are hoping to use every inch to grow food and healing herbs.

My daughter and I are disabled and that puts a lot of pressure on my D.H. but I'm blessed with a wonderful hubby and daughter.

My daughter Deidre found the M.J. books and we both love them. I was so glad to find this site and everyone seems so friendly and supportive.

Looking forward to getting to know you all. blessings Phyllis

Hi Kelly, I would love to meet you some day. I think Apison is a lovely place, at least it was the last time I was there 20plus years ago. Hope you will be very happy there. take care. blessings Phyllis

Well now your not to far from here! I like Harrison but am soon moving to Apison, much more quieter out there! Maybe some day we'll meet!

Hi Kelly, good to meet a neighbor. We lived in Harrison many years ago. My hubby grew up in East Chatt. I grew up in Cleveland, although we have lived all over. Englewood is about 7 miles east of Athens on highway 411. Madisonville is 10 miles north of us.

we are ready to that garden started too. I'm really anxious to be able to graze in my yard. Actually if I didn't have neighborhood doggies visiting I could already be doing that. we have lots of chickweed, dandelions, violets, all edible weeds. However, think I wait for that after I get a fence up.

thanks again for the warm welcome. Phyllis

Welcome Phyllis!
We are close, I am east of Chattanooga, What is Englewood close to (Athens, Sweetwater?)? Welcome back to TN and good luck starting that garden, I am with Kris and wish this soggy ground would dry up! I am so ready to start my garden!

Hi all, thanks so much for the warm welcome. I think I'm going to like it here. LOL.

Nikki, almost neighbors. LOL. I love small towns too. I knew I was home when my new neighbor came over with a jar of homemade jelly. she then brought a lady to visit that grew up in the house and told us all the secrets of the house. we love our old house, we do keep finding small problems that need fixing, but that's the joy of older houses.

thanks again for the welcomes. blessings Phyllis

Hey, Phyllis, welcome to farmgirl country! Glad to see someone from near my neck of the woods; although, I bet we are about a three hour drive away.

I have asked many people in Alabama where they would live if they had to leave Alabama and almost all of them say Tennessee, even though y'all get a little more snow than we would like! Ha!

I used to live in a mill house in a little town in South Alabama and I loved it. We could walk to the library and the corner grocery. My son could safely ride his bike around the neighborhood and visit with friends. It felt like I had stepped back in time to the '50's. In fact, it reminded me a lot of Mayberry. I know that you will really enjoy getting to meet all of your new neighbors and becoming a part of that small community, just like I'm sure you will like it here at the Farmgirl Connection!

Hi Kristin,I have been to Chickamauga many times. back in my healthier days when I lived in Chatt. we used to come down to the Battlefield and ride our bikes. It's a lovely place. I also performed with the Sweet Adelines a couple of times in Chickamauga.

I'm about I'm guessing 70miles? from you. Do you know where Englewood is? It's a very small place about 1600 people. We love it here. Really missed Tennessee with seasons and all. We are just getting ready to start a garden, probably only a few things this year and expand next year. there is a lot that we need to do like fence the area in. our yard is visited frequently by the neighborhood puppies.

Hope the rain lets up a bit so you can get your garden in. I expect we will be buying quite a bit from the farmers market this year, there is one nearby. take care and thanks to all for the warm welcome. Phyllis

Hey Phyllis. Welcome! I am just below Chatt. in N.Ga. I am glad you decided to join in here. I am hoping we get all dried out here soon so we can start planting our gardens. It's rained so much lately I am wondering if we will have a garden this year. It's pretty today but more rain expected the first of the week. It's very depressing. I know we need rain but enuf already!

Thank you all for your warm welcome. I have really enjoyed reading and learning here.

Everyone is so friendly and helpful. I'm looking forward to making new friends here. we are currently in the middle of redoing our "new" house. it was build in the early 20's, a factory house for the texile mill that used to be in front of us. there is a museum in town with a picture of our house labeled" remodeled house on Sock Hill". Englewood is a small town in East Tn. about half way between Chattanooga and Knoxville. Everyone seems to know everyone else. folks ask where we live then say"oh, next door to Billy Herman". LOL. It's a lot of fun.

We are preparing to get our garden in, and start developing out little part of Tn. I'm so happy to be home, I've lived lots of places, but for the first time I'm at home.

Thanks again for the welcome. see ya soon. Blessings Phyllis
