Hello, Everybody I am loving this site and all the strong, wonderful women represented by it. I am new here, originally from Kansas and transplanted by parents when younger. I am married with 5 kids ages 15-8(tomorrow). I long to get back to the midwest and have a little farm with my family. Has anybody done that? Please tell me your experience. We have looked at a few places in OK and MO. We are a home school family,too. Thanks in advance for your input.. Are we crazy to think of leaving everything behind to start a simpler life?? Oh Heather! You're from Crescent City?! My family traveled through there many years ago, it was one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited. We camped at a KOA in Crescent City. You are very fortunate to live in such a gorgeous place with both the redwood forest and the ocean so close. :)

Hi Jill and welcome to the forum! My children are all grown and I just became a grandma for the first time a month ago but I know there are lots and lots of homeschooling moms here.

Well...if your crazy for wanting to leave everything and have a simpler life...so am I!
Dh and I are very seriously discussing our options at the moment. We are actually getting very close to pitching it all here in the city and going to live in a small town my parents were raised in. Nobody in our family lives there since my Grandma died, but we are feeling lead to just go anyway. I can really relate.

Welcome Jill!! I certainly don't think your crazy, the simple life is the best there is in the whole world. And if you would like a little perspective from the child's side, Sheri (Lynner) is my mom. I am so glad I wasn't raised in Los Angeles. My fondest memories are of taking walks with my parents, going camping, cooking over an open fire, learning wilderness survival from my dad, roaming around in the woods on my own, fishing in the creek behind our house, and stargazing to locate constellations. Moving is a big adjustment for children, but growing up in the country was the best experience I could have hoped to have.
The chief source of failure and unhapiness is trading what you want the most for what you want at the moment. |

Welcome, and I know you are finding alot of inspiration here. My opinion about you being crazy to leave where you are :
Heaven#347; no, go for it while you can. I live in Missouri, a very home shcool friendly place. My sister-in-law home schooled and graduated her two children. There is nothing to compare to the simpler life. A family who sells at the same Farmers Market as I do, have four children. They live on a 40 acre farm, and are home schooling. Those are the most happy and pleasant children I have seen in a very long time. All that space to run and play. They are also very involved in helping their parents with the work on the farm, and they love it. The girls help with selling at the farmers market. I am now a Grammy of two, but when my own children were small the decision was, to stay where there was work and move to the LA area or move back to Missouri. We decided we did not want to raise our children there, so we took the money we had, and moved back to Missouri. We were very glad that we did. Much more peaceful.
I do#324;t think you will be sorry, and I would venture to say, that you would not have too much trouble finding a new home.

I am pretty new here and also a homeschooler.
I don't think you are crazy to think of leaving everything behind and starting a simpler life. I'm jealous! I have seen some terrific small farms for sale in North TX that are almost in OK. We just can't make that move quite yet. I'd love to though.
