Hello all!
My grandmother first introduced me to MJF a few months back and i fell in love with it! I recently moved to a Dairy Farm with my boyfriend and fell in love all over again! Farm living is so peaceful! Now, i dont do much work in the barn because i have my own full time job but when i do putz around in the barn, (usually just feeding the kittens or helping feed the calfs) i enjoy it greatly. Were living in the old farm house until we can save enough to build our own home. At first when the idea arose of me moving with him into the farm house away from my city life i was quite hesitant. I was worried about not having anything to do because its in the middle of nowhere and i was used to the city life. I am glad i have chosen this life and although its taking some getting used to in some areas (the smell). I love growing my own flowers and next year i plan to start my own garden and take a try at canning. I will most likely have to call up Grammy on that one to help but its all a work in progress. I found this site and i fell that i have a place to come and ask my questions!

Hi Claudia, Welcome to the farm from another Pa farmgirl. I live about 5 miles from the New York state line. We live on my an old farm that has been passed down through the years in my hubbies family. We just love it. I'm sure you will love MJF, these are a great bunch of girls. Hello Sue, I'm actually about an hour and 45 minutes from Mechanicsburg, I used to go to college in Summerdale. If you know where Huntingdon is or Raystown lake is i'm about 15 minutes from that.

That brings up a thought i had awhile ago. With my boyfriend on the farm i would need to keep myself busy. I just wondered if i would get lonely. We live across from his parents and his mother and i get along well, my sister isnt really into the farm life so its hard to get her to come out here, but when her son wants to come she will spend the day here. I'm just happy his mother and i get along so well!

I had the same experience the first time I fed a calf also. Farm life is wonderful and exciting, you will never get bored. The biggest thing for me is even though there is plenty to do, I still get a lil lonely at times. I do not have any sisters, only 3 brothers. I do have one sister in law but she wants nothing to do with farming as the same goes for all of my girlfriends from a previous job. I have one son and even all of my cousins are boys except one and she lives a distance away! So if you ever get lonely don't be afraid to get on here some and chat! That is what I have started doing. I wish I would have found this sooner!
Don't get me wrong though, I wouldn't change it for the world!

I have to tell you about my first experience with feeding a calf. My boyfriend uses those buckets that have the nipple around the bottom of he bucket instead of the bottles. Just easier i guess. Well, i had no clue that these little cute things had such force when they are going for their milk. The darn thing about pushed me over. My boyfriend was there and had a good laugh at it too. I spilled about half of the milk all over me, most of it on pants and the other part on the ground. I had to go get it more milk seeing as how the ground got most of it but the next time i had a helping hand so i didnt spill most of it agian!

Welcome Claudia! I, too, came from more of a city to a country life. It's not so much that there is nothing to do, cause there is plenty, but it's different. Instead of going to a concert, for example, I listen to the many birds outside my window while I have my morning tea! You'll be busier than ever before. |

hello jonni!
No, its not in all that bad condition. It just all old and his grandparents were the type to just do a quick fix and that was good enough for them. There is just so much that needs done, it has old wiring, old plumbing and need some TLC in some rooms.

Welcome from another PA farmgirl! You will love it here. I live on a beef farm but years ago we were a dairy farm so I know all about feeding those calves! You will love it here. The information from all the other farmgirls is priceless.

Welcome, Claudia!!! You'll fit right in, here...wonderful that you are living on a dairy farm...is the farmhouse in too bad of a condition to fix up? I'm a huge fan of farmhouses!!! There's always something to do, isn't there? Even if it's just listening to the wind through the trees.
