Posted - Aug 27 2009 : 7:21:41 PM Hello everyone! I just joined.
I'm Lorie. My husband and I have 4 acres outside Quakertown, Pennsylvania. We have two children, our son is 13 and our daughter is 11.
My husband grows sweet corn, about an acre and a half of it, and I have my large veggie garden which this is the second year I have grown everything from seed and my flower beds. I am just starting to grow herbs this year.
Our only animals are our dog and my son's two sea snails from a science project long ago.
Both of us grew up on farms and living the simple life, and would never trade it for anything.
I am so glad I found this site and magazine, just browsing all the topics I am constantly learning and I feel right at home.
Can't wait to meet you all, Lorie

Posted - Aug 29 2009 : 7:32:37 PM That's so cute "New Sprout"!!! LOL It made me instantly think of the really old Jolly Green Giant commercials. Probably way before your time, but it was cute also. The giant had a little boy that was a sprout.
Welcome!! Smiles, Melody June

Posted - Aug 29 2009 : 12:12:45 PM Luanne, that is too funny! My husband has GPS in his truck, and some of the names, especially in our area being PA dutch names, is hilarious. I know about where you are, and I have heard of your town. Thank you for the welcome :) Lorie

Posted - Aug 28 2009 : 04:35:59 AM Hi Lori !
We're neighbors, sort of. I live up near Mt. Pocono (Cresco, actually, but nobody has ever heard of it)! I have to tell you a funny story about Quakertown. My friend and I were looking for a place near Quakertown and put the address in his GPS. When we got there, the voice on the GPS kept calling it Quackertown (quack, like a duck) - we were laughing so hard we almost missed the exit on the highway!!!
Anyway - welcome to the group! I'm fairly new too and have already learned so much!

Posted - Aug 27 2009 : 7:39:33 PM Thanx Toni for the kind reply.
My garden is coming along, we had a very wet spring and early summer here in the east, so I did need to replant some things. I'm having trouble with beans, carrots and beets.
