Posted - Sep 14 2009 : 09:09:50 AM Hi to all! I have been getting MJF mag. for several issues, really really like it! I don't usually get on the computer this early, kinda of taking a break as I got up this a.m at 5am. My day starts pretty early. I breed exotic birds, and right now have 15 babies that I am hand feeding, plus 10 breeding pairs. I live on 3 acr.'s have had chickens, goats rabbits, but now I have my birds. Try I as good, it was just to much. I also have a big garden, and lots of herb plants-that I use. I would like to know if there is any member out there that lives anywhere near me-I would realy like to meet someone close to chat-to meet that has some of the same interest-Mama Bird |

Posted - Sep 16 2009 : 06:41:17 AM Hi again, Julie. My husband's shelter doesn't get birds usually. And this is the only large exotic one they've ever taken in. They really don't have the ability to take care of birds. We bought the cage for Angel and we supply nearly all of her(not sure if she's a 'he' or a 'she') food and toys. The girls who work in the shelter don't like Angel, b/c she terrorizes them. I'm afraid that she doesn't get played with enough. I visit on weekends as often as I can. We plan to take her with us to our farm next June, at least trying to gradually wean her away from the animal shelter.

Posted - Sep 15 2009 : 08:41:57 AM Miss Bee Haven, My advise for bad behavior in birds (think of them as children)be very carefull to NOT Reward the bad behavior, bad igore the bad behavior, and be sure to reward(with treats, praise, attention)the GOOD behavior. One more thing, make sure any bird as enough stuff to do, toys, time out of the cage etc. A BUSY BIRD, IS A HAPPY BIRD. Also, does the animal shelter have birds to adopt? I am looking for pionus, greys. Good to meet you-Mama Bird |

Posted - Sep 14 2009 : 2:21:34 PM Hi Julie - just drove through Metropolis a couple of weeks ago on our way home to Springfield. We always kid each other as we drive that Superman was born there! :) It is a beautiful part of the state. I was born and raised in Illinois; welcome to you!

Posted - Sep 14 2009 : 1:27:23 PM Hi, Julie. Do you have any Moluccan cockatoos? I need tons of advice on one with bad behavior. My dh has one at the animal shelter where he is the director. The bird has been passed from several owners and is hard to deal with.
