I'm a homeschooling mom of 5 kids and we live about 15 miles outside of Wasilla, Alaska. I grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles, but about 20 years ago my husband got assigned up here with the Army and we loved it too much to ever leave. Over the years we've inched our way further and further away from the city, and now we own some land on a small lake, which we share with our big goofy dog, a bunch of moose, several foxes, eagles, muskrats, loons and a resident pair of swans that returns each year to our lake to raise their babies.

I'm a stay-at-home mom but I help pay the bills with my soapmaking business (I'm SwanMountainSoaps on etsy.com). For the last few years we have been trying to become as self-sufficient as possible, and this former city-girl (who's always been a farm girl at heart) has learned to bake her own bread, sew her kids' clothes, harvest and make teas and simple home remedies from the herbs we grow and find in the wild. This spring we're getting chickens and goats, and I'm learning to make cheese and wine. We'd also like to get a hive of bees this summer if possible.

I fell in love with Maryjane's magazine a few months ago, and am really looking forward to connecting with all of you great folks here. It is always a huge pleasure to meet kindred spirits. =]

welcome Christina! I use to live in Tok. We were there a year and a half. It was way to cold for us. -60, no thanks. It is beautiful and I do miss cross country skiing.

For tomorrow and its needs I do not pray, but keep me, guide me, love me, Lord just for today.
