Posted - Oct 23 2009 : 11:02:49 AM Hi everyone- I have been reading the posts on the boards for some time now and feel like I know many of you. I figured it was time to get involved and say hello. I live in upstate NY north of Albany and am a 50-something Mom of two grown sons, wife and Mom to my five furbabies- two Golden Retrievers, a Dalmatian, and two kitties. I am a farmgirl at heart as I live in a subdivision, but have a large yard so I do have a vegetable and herb garden every year. What I don't have room to grow, I go pick myself- apples, berries, etc. and make my own jam and freeze for winter. My dream would be to live on a small farm- maybe five acres, but at this point, hubby doesn't really seem too motivated for that. I left my job as a loan officer at a Credit Union two years ago and since then have spent a lot of time taking care of my Grama, who passed away last year and my Mom, who has been staying with me since she broke her hip. Add to that being executor of Grama's estate and selling her property and I have been pretty busy. I look forward to getting to know all of you here-- when I am here I feel like I am home-- Donna |

Posted - Nov 02 2009 : 03:20:55 AM I lived there all my life. Up until I married my husband in 1982. What year did you graduate? I assume you went the Galway schools? I rarely get back for a visit, my parents moved to Florida, my Dad couldn't take the winters anymore due to his health. I still have extended family there though.

Posted - Oct 23 2009 : 3:49:12 PM Hello Donna from NE Ohio. First off I want to say I'm sorry to hear about your Grandma. We lost my Dad this Feb. and it still hurts pretty bad. I moved him from one nursing home to another, closer to me and moved my mom to an apartment at the other end of my street. It's handy. She's 81 now. I want her close. I pray that your mom heals fast. This place has been a blessing to me. It has filled some really empty places in my heart and soul. You'll love it here, I'm sure of it! ;) Judy

Posted - Oct 23 2009 : 1:10:33 PM Hi Donna, welcome to the forum. I am also a NY Farmgal, from just south of Rochester. You may be in a sub-division but you are making use of all your space and you have been very busy caring for family too. But, a Farmgil does what she has to do right. I will be planting my first veggie garden next year and although our winters are long, it will give me lots of planning time. Look forward to getting to know you better.
