Hello all! The introduce your self place was so far down the forum I missed it! Its ok, better late than never they say. I am from South Bend IN. Married 4 years and going on much older than I feel  We have no children due to health reasons and instead have three loving cats that think there kids. We bought our first home what seems like last year but is three years ago now ! I am not sure where the time went. We were very lucky in getting about 1/3 acre in city. I have tons of plans to plant the entire lot with not only flowers and pretties but as much useful plants as passable too. My dad is calling it my 1/3 acre mini farm. I wish! I have started a personal champagne to use everything that comes into our home. My Tupperware comes with our groceries most of the time and I reuse everything I can. Recycle what I cant. I am a soaper. Love it! I am also a lover of food and cooking. I am currently trying to learn to both sew and crochet. The crochet is not going so well :) well thats a lot-a-bit about me. Nice to meet you all.

Welcome and enjoy this site. I love reading about everyone. It is awesome. We live on 10 acres. We are very fortunate. My hubby ranched for 20 years. So when he decided to retire, we could not see ourself living in the city. We love living out here in the open area of the Black Hills of South Dakota. Across from us is a buffalo ranch, so when we look out our window we can see the buffalo graze across the road. So I guess we live "where the buffalo roam and the deer and antelope play" because every spring we have 4 or 5 antelope come and rest in our back acreage and we have deer that eat our tulips every spring. We will be getting baby chicks to replace our chickens. We have them for the eggs, but also for grasshopper control. Enjoy, learing to sew. I am a quilter.

Both sewing and crocheting are easy coming from someone who has done them for 50 plus years. The only real thing to tell a new person to the craft learn the talk then pratice, pratice and pratice some more. Then before long you will not remember never not knowing. Farmgirls will help just ask. We have 2 acres in Virginia. We can have chickens but no wind mill. Who makes these laws people with the money not to need the chickens and the wind mills thats who. Welcome from Western WA - "The Evergreen State". Glad you can join us! I also live on a 1/3 acre lot. We've lived here for almost 6 years. I have so many plans for my yard too, but since my day job is landscape design/construction I rarely have time during the spring and summer to work on my yard. In the meantime, it's so fun to dream..... You should check out the Garden Gate, Farm Kitchen and Stitching & Crafting Room forums. They are even farther down the page but there you will find lots of posts on topics that you are interested in. Have fun!

Welcome Miranda, You sound just like us. We live on a large lot in town and every year our garden gets bigger and bigger, like Diane. hahaha Once you get started, you just can't stop. So much to plant.hahaha We don't have kids either, but we have our fur-kids. 1 cat, 1 house-bunny, and 1 cuddle-bug rattie-girl. She's my "pocket pet." You'll love it here. These gals are so sweet and helpful!If they can't answer your question, they know someone who can. ;-)

Thanks for all the wonderful hellos! Fiddlehead, how did you go about the chicken thing? our city has banned any animals basically besides cats and dogs and windmills!! I want an exemption on both accounts. Especially seeing as how they banned wind generators due to the fact that they dont look good! ( oh come on!) and I live right next to an ethanol plant and various other plants. Thats nuts! For the chickens they say you need an acre of continues land to have even 1.

A Big Wisconsin Hay Dare to Ya Miranda! I also have a "city farm" and I am lucky to have 1/2 acre. Every year I have less and less grass and more and more garden. I am hoping to have chickens soon. We are currently before the city council to get the ordinance changed. I crochet too, if you ever need any pointers let me know. My newest project is a challenge, I am crocheting wide brimmed sun hats out of paper rafia. It is really hard to work with but really awesome when done. We are so glad that you joined us! So many friendly and talented farm girls here.
