Hi, I've been a farm girl all my life, and this week introduced the newest granddaughter to goats. I live on 20 acres, have a large home-birthed, home-schooled family and experienced raising lots of different kinds of critters.
I am herd consultant for a goat dairy where they make artisan cheese, other goatherds, as well as tend our own herd. I spend much of my time outside and in the barn, and with kidding season just starting will experience ooooooodles of kids, udders, milking, culling decisions, doctoring, etc.
I am hoping to reclaim my garden from neglect,establish more medicinal herbs, spring clean like I haven't in years, try some quilting,and embrace this computer for more than research, like making some new friends!!! Looking forward to what this sisterhood brings!!!! Laur

Thanks to all for your welcomes!!!! Brrr, more snow coming down and a bit of wind tonight, so hard on the creatures, and I feel the years a bit more on days like this. It has been a looong winter for me and many! Boonville is about 20 miles west of Columbia or maybe 2 short hours east of Kansas City by I-70. for those wondering.
I have been enjoying getting better acquainted with the myriad of topics and folks on this wonderful site. I love the enthusiasm and warmth, and know it has certainly helped brighten my weekend!
Kris, I'll be happy to share any reality of the dairy with you as you dream!!! Tonight I am glad no kids are arriving in my barn, but am concerned what's happening to the new arrivals at the dairy. Hope they are managing.
I so challenged as I try to learn about this computer, I can research fine, but just trying to learn to type, and click, and use this thing to maybe someday create a blog or website, seems like major work?! Some of your blogs and websites are beautiful! My 11 year old tries to convince me he shouldn't have to practice his handwriting, cause he can do data entry just fine, I'll get there!!!

Welcome from Georgia, Laurie. I also have dairy goats. 3 Lamanchas and a Nubian. All due the end of March. Not my choice. They decided this time! I love my girls. Can't wait to start milking again. Sounds like you have a great job. That's one of my dreams to have a real dairy and be able to sell the milk and make cheese to sell. Maybe one day. Hope to see you around.

Sounds like a beautiful life you have! When I have children I want to have at home births :) this is very important to me... Mmm....and artisan cheese! The Best! I have really grown a taste for goat cheese...it is totally amazing!

My fruit trees did not survive my goats. We will be replanting this year. Our goats are now secured in a fence that we "think" will contain them. We had a lot of bad experiences trying to figure out just what kind of fence would hold them in. My dairy goats don't try to escape much, but our Boar goats are just plain sneaky. I do enjoy quilting. Taught myself years ago from a book. I'm working on one right now called, "Within the Stars" from the book, Red Wagon Originals. Hope I can get most of it done this month and next. Once spring comes there is little time for quilting. My family and I are going to Branson this summer. Are you anywhere near there?

Sounds a lot like our home. The goats got loose last year and ate a lot of our garden, the new fruit trees we planted, and they love the taste of rose bushes. The only thing they left alone were the herbs. I also am enjoying this computer for something other than research!! Would love to hear what you do as a consultant at the goat dairy. What kind of goats do you have?
