I'm new to Mary Janes Farm and a little shy,(it took me weeks to get the nerve to join in) I just recently discovered that I am a farm girl at heart when my hubby brought home some chickens, I was in love! I'm really looking forward to meeting other farm girls and learning from them. Liz P.S. I just realized I posted my original introduction in the wrong forum. Be patience with me I'll get the hang of this. |

Lilly; Have you found any other sisters from Virginia? I hope so, but it really doesn't matter, you still have sisters from all over the country (actally all over the world!}Be patient, when I first started looking at the site I couldn't find any from CT, but as I joined I discovered two CT sisters. I'm sure that they are here just finding the right site. Liz |

NOW you asked about the colors by the names, well, you get a running total of the number of times you post or reply to a post under your name and different spans of numbers correspond to different colors of stars.

Posted - Feb 18 2010 : 5:14:46 PM I started out with two little leghorns, they were my true loves, then one went missing and a couple of days later the raccoons got the other one, my hubby saw them in the coop, it was absolutely horrific! (I found the remains of the first one in my son's fort a couple of days later.) My hubby and I reinforced the coop and then he brought home three more birds
Right now I have a tan orpington her name is cinnamon and a shiny black australorp named raven (also had a brahma something got too) They are now about 8 months old and we have been getting a few eggs here and there. We also have three ducks too not sure how old they are they were kinda rescued from a friends dinner table they were giving us eggs too but seemed to have stopped for the winter. |

Posted - Feb 18 2010 : 4:41:35 PM A big farmgirl welcome to ya from the Sunshine State Liz! You will just love all the warm, wise and whitty ladies here. I look forward to reading more and getting to know ya.
Believe it or not I am quite shy myself. And I am a Farmgirl wannabe with a farmgirl heart. I am struggling to learn about my chickens that I adore and my hive of bees. Thats where the shyness comes in I struggle or feel foolish to ask those darn questions.

Posted - Feb 18 2010 : 4:15:14 PM Hi Liz,
You will have to keep us posted on those chickens. I have always wanted some, but was afraid of the coyotes getting them. There for awhile, they seemed to be around alot. Might have to try this year. We are not zoned for too much, but I can have chickens. What kind of chickens do you have? I think one of my neighbors has Rhode Island Reds, and they are always getting out into the front yard! LOL

Posted - Feb 18 2010 : 08:09:21 AM Hi Liz, Glad you joined us. I love this site, because no matter if you're shy or not, computer savvy or not - this place is like home - warm, welcoming and soooo supportive. I've read that so many ladies here have chickens, I'm thinking about asking my husband to get some. We had some before, but i confess, I was a bit afraid of them and kept my distance. But I think with the advice here, I can probably learn to really love them. I look forward to hearing more from you around the forum.
Blessings, staci :o ) FG#973 |

I am new myself! The red hexagon symbolizes being a member of the farmgirl sisterhood where you can earn badges for completing projects such as knitting, going green, community service, etc. There is more info on the website plus throughout the chatroom. The stars symbolize the number of posting each person as made. The number of stars and the title (true blue farmgirl, farmgirl at heart, etc) changes the more you post.
Hope this helps! Welcome again!
