Posted - Feb 28 2010 : 6:42:05 PM Hi! I'm Jackie from Tennessee. I am a new member and a little lost. I was raised on a farm but have not lived on one for a while. We have a few acres now and I would like to raise a few chickens. We grow a small garden. I love crafts and I love Mary Janes Farm Magazine. I am looking forward to making lots of new friends. |

Posted - Mar 01 2010 : 6:28:52 PM Welcome Jackie - I know you will enjoy this site. I love reading and interacting with all the Farmgirl Sisterhood. When we sold our ranch and purchased this 10 acres. I told my hubby I wanted chickens for pets, plus they could keep the grasshopper population down and of course the eggs would not be bad. So off my Hubby went to get me a varity of chickens. We did not want a roster due to the neighbers. Our neighbors are not very close by but still we did not want to disturb their tranquility. So as days went by our baby chicks got their feathers, and soon we enjoyed our flock of chicken, a varity of color and size. One day we are sitting in our back yard enjoying the flowers and our pets. One of the chickens or so we thought, started crowing. Well both my hubbe and me look at each other and we thought "Oh No", know the neighbors are going to start calling. Well they did, but then they wanted to come by and see our chicken coop and our flock of chickens. We still have the roster. He is a hugh golden Wyandotte roster, and he struts his stuff in our chicken coop. We figure he will not end up in the crock pot. He will be the "King of the Chickencoop" until he goes to chicken heaven...(is there a chicken heaven?) I hope you get your chickens.

Posted - Mar 01 2010 : 05:48:13 AM Hey Kathleen. Welcome from N' Ga. I live just a few miles from Chattanooga. It's like my second home. How far are you from there? I have heard of Decherd but not sure where it is. I'm sure my Truckin' MAn's been through it. I hope you get some chickens. Every farm needs a few running around. And a milk goat or two!
