Hi everyone! I am from Pflugerville, Texas and very pleased to have found such a lovely bunch of Farmgirls! I am looking forward to contributing and being a part of this group. Got my sewing machine out and my knitting needles ready. Passions I have are many, but to name a few: sewing, knitting, gardening, baking, decorating, swimming, summer, grandkids, embroidery, needlepoint, and I am out of breath. Oh! and would love to have chickens (HOA won't allow). :)

I grew up close to my grandmother. I rode my bike to her house everyday in the summer. Granny was a great cook! She had a small orchard in the back with peaches, plum and figs. She grew a small garden of green beans, yellow squash, cucumbers, tomatoes and onions. She made her own sweet pickles and jelly. I never had store bought jelly until I married and moved away. Her flowers were beautiful and she worked in the yard everyday that the weather was good. If I called her and she didn't answer the phone, I knew she was out in the yard. She taught me how to sew, embroidery, knit, garden, cook and conserve our resoures. She made her own felt christmas ornaments and a beautiful felt tree skirt. She knitted pot holders and wash cloths for everyone each Christmas. She sewed all of her clothes and her childrens clothes. She did volunteer work all her life and impressed upon me how important it is to help others. I was blessed to have such a talented and smart grandmother to pass on so much to me. I now have two beautiful granddaughters that I want to share these wonderful blessings with. I love this site! Thank you for the inspiration.

Hello Cathy and welcome. My aspirations began with my greatgrand parents and then my Grandpa. Such a wealth of family knowledge passed on to me. I really cherish it. Your grandmother sounds like a sweetie.

Jennifer, thank for the warm welcome. That is funny how you say Pflugerville. I was so blessed to have grown up close to my Granny. Many people don't get that chance. I really am enjoying this site.

Hi Cathy, I am not too far from you. I live over in Iola about 30 miles east of college station. My cousin lives in Round Rock and when we go visit her we always pass the exit for Pflugerville. We always sneeze when we say it. Just being funny! Love your stories of your grandmother. My grandmother was named Clare also. Anyways, welcome and I know you will enjoy it here.

The name Tashi came from my oldest granddaughter Madison. When she was little, she heard someone call me Cathy and that was her way of saying "Cathy." It showed so cute and it stuck. It is pronounced Ta-she. So I have been Tashi ever since. All the kids call me that now. Both of my granddaughters were named after my mother, JoAnn Clairce. Madison Clairce, Claire Marie. My mother died of breast cancer, Aug. 21, 1996. My daughter really was close to her and thus named her girls after her. I come from a group of very strong and talented women,I am pride to say.

Cathy you have so many wonderful memories of your grandmother. Thanks for sharing!! Have you ever thought about making a journal about her? I have a friend who keeps a family journal. She just writes down short stories about her family. I enjoy when she shares her stories. Your granddaughters could help you decorate the journal or add stories about you! Just a thought...Oh I also cann't have chickens due to HOA. I have even double checked our guidlines. Oh well many other farmgirl stuff to be done. Welcome - Barbara

I don't know how many how many people are in our area either. I know there used to be a chapter here in Lakeway, but it has been closed since I became a farmgirl. I've been in touch with Mary in Leander, so maybe we could stir something up around here I'd love to have "neighbors" to encourage me to step up my inner farmgirl and to be encouragement for others.

Hi Mel! I have a brother in Allen, Texas. I come visit him every now and then. Texas is a country in itself. I would love to get a vintage trailer and farmgirl it up and go on farmgirl events. Wouldn't that be so charming and fun. I wish, I dream and hope I can make that come true someday soon. I first heard of such a group called "Girls on the Fly." They have the cutest vintage trailers and do group camping and fly fish. Since I don't like to touch a fish, it wouldn't work for me. I could stay at camp and make muffins, bread and the fixin's for a fish fry though. What a good time that would be. Food for thought for us Farmgirls though. We could have our own trailer/tent group.

You know, they were ladies too. Always spoke with grace, charm and good manners. You don't see that much anymore. Thank you for the warm welcome, Judy. The older I get the more I realize just how much both my Grandmothers taught me.

Welcome Cathy. WOW! I'm out of breath just reading...or however that works. lol I had a Great-Grandmother that reminds me so much of your description of your Grandmother. They were so wise and charitable, pure and honest back then. Oh ...to go back and sit at her feet and learn some more from her. *sigh*

Oh, I forgot to share this. My other Grandmother had chickens in her backyard and used the old type of washing machine where you had to wring out each piece of clothing on a roller. In the summer she would take us to the old family farm where there was no indoor plumbing! There were chickens on the farm too. The beds were all feather beds with the striped ticking. For dinner, she killed one of the chickens and fried it for us. Grandmother could make toys out of what she had around the house. She showed me how to make a doll house out of a shoebox and make the furniture for the doll house out of cardboard, thread and material scraps. I would even make the dolls out of the cardboard by folding a small piece inhalf and wraping thread around it to hold it in place and than wraped some material around it to make it a dress. There were no arms and not much of a head, but a childs imagination could do alot with this type of creativity. Grandmother knew how to make do with what she had. I really enjoyed playing with the dollhouse and doll I made. Of course she also sewed her own clothes. Don't mean to be so longwinded. Just have so many memories between both grandmothers and I learn so much from them. God bless Grandmothers!

I am knitting a one skein baby hat. So cute. I put it down and got back to it and forget where I was. So I took it apart (frogging) and started over. Made good notes so it doesn't happen again. I also knitted two squares and then felted them to make a rose pin to put on my knitting basket. Now to find the felted squares to actually make the rose. I need to organize my stuff. I go from project to project. Just finished sewing a machine cover to keep the dust off my bernia. So much I want to do, so little time.
