Hi! My name is Melissa. I live in the suburban wilds of interior Alaska with my DH, DD(6) and DS(4). We're considering raising chickens (starting next summer), and I'm trying to work out how to gently un-modernize our lives.

I love crafty stuff. I sew, knit, crochet, paint (a little), work with polymer clay and make dolls of all sorts. I used to love to cook, but have gotten away from that (would like to get back to it). I am terribly disorganized and hate housecleaning (does that disqualify me from farmgirly-ness?), but I'm trying, sorta.

Looking forward to making new friends here.
Melissa

A nice warm welcome from the other side of the country!
I always say, Alaska was the most beautiful place I ever had the chance to visit! Stayed in Ketchikan for the summer back when I was 13. Amazing wildlife! Wish I could go back, I would appreciate it much more now!

Welcome from Minnesota, Melissa. Make sure your chickens have good shelter, even here in MN we've had them freeze to a perch in the coldest winter. I've heard that your long days can produce tremendous garden produce even with the short season. A more natural life style is so much happier and healthier even when you consider the work involved, but that's just good exercise!

Hi Melissa! OK, I'm the weirdo here, but I love to clean and organize. Maybe we can barter the things we hate with someone else. A trade-off of sorts. LOL I'll clean while you knit or crochet me something. That'll work for me. ;-) LOL Welcome Sis!

Welcome Melissa - I'm glad you are here. As to housework, well, there are lots of things I would rather be doing, like gardening - this time of year I just pray that noone stops by without calling first:)

A big Wisconsin hay dare to ya Melissa! Sometimes you just have to leave the mess, there are more important things to do! Besides, it will be there when you get to it, it's not like a bunch of little elves come in the night and clean up. We are so glad you joined us! Alaska sounds so big and beautiful. My husband is going there for 2 weeks in August with the Air Force.

Welcome from an Indiana anti-housecleaner! My DH says the only reason I wanted kids was to have someone to pass the housecleanin on to. I hope they don't figure it out! ;) LOL!

I hope the aversion from housework doesn't disqualify or there are quite a few of us here that would be booted out already LOL! Welcome to the Farm, Melissa!
