Hello lady farmgirls! My name is Penny and I live in north-western NH along the Connecticut River.
Here's a few facts about me:
I am the youngest of 3 girls born to my parents.
My parents are both deceased.
My sisters both live in NH but we only see each other occasionally due to distance, jobs and family committments
I have a BS in Science and am currently changing career paths again and will be taking my Praxis exam to become a teacher.
I believe life is a smoregous board of sorts and to "settle" into one career/job for life is like only tasting one thing off the buffet! I have many, many skills (as most farmgirls do) and have had many different jobs over my lifetime and I don't regret it!
I married my high school sweetheart, Jeffrey and we will be celebrating our 23 anniversary in Oct.
We have two children: our daughter Elizabeth will be 22 in Dec. and she is entering her senior year as a Bio-Chemistry major at Simmon's College in Boston, MA.-she is heading to medical school after graduating next spring; our son, Christopher will be 20 in Nov. and is entering his junior year as an aeonautical engineer at Daniel Webster College in Nashua, NH. He is looking to work for Lockhead designing and building planes for the military. He has Cystic Fibrosis ("CF") but his health is quite stable at this time. He has a girlfriend of 3 yrs who also lives with us now due to a terrible family dynamic. She, Megan, just turned 19 in April and will be a sophmore in the fall at Colby Sawyer College in New London, NH where she is an elementary education major. I love "all" my children very much and they have always made me proud-no matter what they have chosen or may choose to do with their lives!
We sold my families land,etc. and moved to an 8+ acre piece of heaven in a more northern, more rural town, where we built a log cabin, garage and pole shed. I love it here! It has a peacefulness about it that I haven't previously felt before moving here.
We raise one holstein steer for beef every year and every 2-3 years we raise a couple hogs. We have a golden retriever who is our beloved 4-legged child! We have 3 cats. Alvin is our daughter's; Bear Kitty is our son's, and Autumn is mine! We love all of our animals and take very good care of them (even the ones we raise to eat).
I saw my first MaryJanes Farm magazine at our local Tractor Supply Store along with HobbyFarm magazines and have been hooked since!
I love to garden, but haven't done much over the past few years due to my then job hours, however things have changed and I now have the time to commit to my gardens again.
I am looking forward to planting 15 blueberry and 15 rasberry bushes next spring as well as 15-20 apple trees, a couple peach trees and a couple more cherry trees.
This year I bought all heirloom seeds (my first time!) and am looking forward to canning/freezing what we need and selling any extras at our farmers market.
I am looking for information on hairy sheep-does anyone out there raise these? I am also looking for information on goats-I would like to raise some small goats, maybe pygmies as I would like to try my hand at making some cheeses and selling my products.

A big Wisconsin hay dare to ya Penny! We are so glad you joined us. I have raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and four apple and one cherry tree! The berries were planted last year so I look forward to harvesting some this year. The fruit trees were just planted in April, but they are doing well. Good luck with yours!
Age only matters if you are wine or cheese.

Hi Penny !
Welcome to the group - I hope you enjoy it here as much as I do. I originally lived "down river" from you in Springfield, Vermont (also on the Connecticut River) just across from Claremont and Charlestown, NH. I have been in the mountains of Northeast PA since 1985.
