Posted - Jul 20 2010 : 04:48:09 AM Hiya! I'm so happy to be a part of the sisterhood. My husband of 9 years built us a big house out in the country 3 years ago and we are eagerly turning it into our own little farm. We have 25 chickens and 3 rabbits.. soon to be more. We plan on getting goats and bees as well. Our two little boys help me in the garden and know all about how the compost pile works. We love our simple life so much, I often mention on facebook how every day at home feels like a vacation. The sisterhood has been so fun for me in the last two months that i've joined. the merit badges are so fun to earn! It has motivated me to do so much! What a great way to work on all the hobbies that I love! I talk about the sisterhood with everyone, everywhere I go. I started a chapter in the farming community where I live. I have not had a get together yet, but i have several girls who are interested in joining. :) fun fun!! |

Posted - Dec 29 2010 : 11:36:56 AM Welcome from another Michiganer! Didn't realize there were so many from Michigan on here. I'm an eastsider, just north of Detroit.
I can't raise bees myself either but my df plans on doing it once we get a place to put them. We'll have the benefit of being able to use the honey and I won't have to get stung.

Posted - Jul 21 2010 : 06:51:07 AM Hi Sally! Sounds like a little slice of paradise you have there. I just have my little 150 X 100 plot here and due to city restrictions no chickens :-(, but one day. :-D Goats sound like fun and I completely agree about the merit badges. I have my list of the ones I'm working on first and got "The Secret Lives of Bees" from the library yesterday. The movie was wonderful and the book has me engrossed. Bummer though, I won't get to raise bees...allergic. That's okay though, I can raise worms and I got the book "Worms Eat My Garbage" yesterday as well. I so look forward to sharing with you and everyone here! Enjoy your day! Melissa |
