Hi All,
I'm an old farmgirl at heart but new to this. I am "middle aged" and recently changed careers - and having a lot more fun. I was an environmental scientist for a very long time - but I started a tea business in 2007. I continued to work in my old job until late 2008 - but since then I've been busy with finding great tea from small vendors who value the earth. I've loved tea since I was 4 years old and my grandmother lived with us. We had afternoon tea everyday - nothing fancy, but the memories stuck. I love gardening, walking and playing with my dogs, reading, spending time with family and friends, and just being outside. Life is good.

Congrats on your tea shop Lorraine from your Illinois Sister. Your web site is great!
My ex and I had a gourmet coffee and tea shop 17 years ago. We also made gift baskets. We were a little ahead of our time. lol As a tea lover, it was fun to sample all those wonderful flavors.

Lorraine, my mom worked for IEPA for many years, but it has been a long time since she was there. By the way, when we were in Illinois, we came up Route 4 and stopped at a roadside stand that had great tomatoes! O cut up the last one tonight for our tomato pie. So I am sure you will be getting some any day.

A big Wisconsin hay dare to ya Lorraine! We are so glad you joined us. I love tea too and I will stop by when I am in your area. I am not too far. And, yes the corn in the midwest is high and I am also waiting for my tomatoes to ripen.

Laurie - I was on the compliance side too - then remediation. I liked my job and enjoyed the challenges for a long time - then I got burned out and tired. Hang in there - I have a lot of friends still in the field. And when some of my friends are in a pinch, I'll help out with a report or something - but not much anymore...
And to Farmgirl #31 - yes the corn does look good. We've had a lot of rain and hot, humid weather. It looks like a bumper crop. We're still waiting for a ripe tomato - we have some cherry and grape tomatoes that are ripe, but we're still waiting for a "real" thing. Can't wait for a homemade tomato sandwich (and a BLT). I have a large garden, but no farm. We have an acre in a country subdivision. By the way, I was born and raised in Joliet - ~ 45 miles SW of Chicago. I use to work for IEPA and spent a lot of time in Springfield. I have a good friend who lives in Rochester - very close to your hometown.
Thanks for the warm welcomes from everyone. I know the rest of you probably feel this way too - but when I pull a new Mary Janes Farm magazine out of the mailbox, I sigh a contented sigh and know its going to be a great afternoon. Its so refreshing.

When I clicked on this post, I just knew it would be an Illinois girl!!! I was born and raised in Springfield, hubby is from Rockford, and we just returned from a week there. The corn looks fabulous this year. I love my home state! Welcome!
