Posted - Aug 04 2010 : 11:37:13 AM Hey all of y'all out there!
It's great to know that the spirit of the farm girl is living and well in the 21st century. I relished all of the stories that my grandmothers passed down to me when I was a little girl. My Nana picked blueberries and apples in Maine and my Memow grew up on a cotton and tobacco farm in North Carolina. One day, I hope to pass on my stories, to my children and grandchildren, of growing up in sunny south Florida with acres and acres of watermelons and some cows in the front yard!
I'm so excited to be part of a community of like-minded and strong women. I hope to get to know ya'll and maybe even learn a thing or two about farming, life, or anything else worth learning (which I can't think of anything that isn't worth learning, anyway).
Well, me, my name is Brandy, I'm 22 years old and I just moved back to the family farm and ranch in DeSoto county Florida. I was away for school in the big bad city of Lakeland, but I couldn't stay away for long. My feet belong on the dirt.
Talk to ya'll soon!

It's a really neat thing to see that y'all are from so many different places... Wisconsin, Texas, New York, Mississippi, Georgia, and my neck of the woods too!
Marsha, best of luck with your soap making, some of the best stuff I've ever washed my face with was homemade with lemon verbena.
Talk to y'all soon!

Posted - Aug 05 2010 : 4:55:10 PM Hey Brandy, You're about 4 hours from me. I have a good friend that lives in Arcadia right at the 75 border near Pt. Charlotte. I would love to move to a bigger place with lots of land to grow a big garden on and have chickens and goats. I grew up in Oviedo in my teen years in the country and I so wish I could have a place like that again one day. But, I have a garden this year and made my first batch of preserves. Next, my DD and I are going to try our hand at soap making. I sew and scrapbook and do card making and crochet. This is a place to ask lots of questions and learn lots from a very talented group of farmgirls.
