Just want to introduce myself to everyone. I like to think of myself as a city farmer even though it's just a small garden in my backyard. My dream is to buy a couple of acres in the South where I can raise chickens and really do some gardening. I am a soapmaker who loves all types of arts & crafts. A friend and I recently started a beehive in a community garden which is really exciting. One of my soapmaker friends recommended this group because she thought I'd fit right in. She was right. I feel right at home.

If you have the images on a photo sharing site like Photobucket, you can share them in the forum by using code kind of like this:

[ IMG ]<http://imagewebsite.net/images/yourimage.jpg>[ /IMG ]

Remove the spaces between the brackets and replace the web address with the address of your image.

Here is a link to a more in depth discussion about posting images on the forums.

I hope that helps! I just love the idea of keeping bees. Someday...

Delores, I did see that on a tutorial somewhere about having the frozen milk like a slushie. Half my upright freezer is goat milk. But in gallon bags. I should have put them in quart baggies. But I guess I could break some off. Anyway, thanks for the reminder.

Wow! So many nice welcomes, thanks ladies. My computer was down for a few days due to router problems but hubby worked on it and I'm here again. One of my good friends and I installed the beehive on Mother's Day. Kind of appropriate because the bees are mostly female. It wasn't planned that way but a good sign anyway. The hive is doing great. We thought we may not be able to extract honey this first year but our mentor is telling us that we could get about 20 lbs. We're planning to do a honey extraction at my house in the next couple of weeks. Is there a way to post pictures?

@Kristin...I have a tip for the goat's milk soap. Freeze it and use it when it has the consistency of a slushy, then add lye and soap with all your ingredients at room temperature. You still have to work fast so make sure your molds are ready. I do it all the time and it works great. I am a member of the Handcrafted Soapmakers Guild and I learned that at one of our conferences.

@Laurie...the blog post I like best are the UPS one and the one about wearing purple. How are things out in Suffolk County these days. Wish you were closer so I could show you the beehive. It's fun, we smoke them to calm them and make it easier to work with them. I have only been stung once and that was when we installed the hive.

@Hallie...Since I have a small garden in my backyard I use the community garden to house the beehive. This year I grew lettuce, all types of herbs, butternut squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, hot peppers, cabbage, green peppers, okra and I grew broccoli but didn't know how to harvest it so it went to seed. I have heard the leaves are good to cook. I make beads, switch plate covers and little garden ornaments from polymer clay. I make Christmas cards & thank you cards. I crochet, needlepoint, latch hook, make pillows and quilt. One of my favorite TV programs is Martha Stewart. I'm nearing my 60th birthday so I try to enjoy every aspect of life.

I see that there is a way to earn badges and things like that. I've ordered the magazine and I think I'd like to be an official member. What are your experiences? Until next time.

P.s. I've been playing around with the spelling of my name ( weird I know) and I've decided that I will stick with Hannah for good. Sorry I got you all confused. Hugs!!

Deloris, I am up near Chattanooga, Tn. About 30 miles south of it. So Aug. is pretty far down in Ga. That will be a good spot though. French milled soap is just where you make a base and let it cure a few weeks then grate it and remelt it and add milk and honey or whatever ya want. Then mold it again and let cure a month or so. A little extra work but I like it. Plus I tried doing goat milk with the lye and it burnt like in 3 seconds. You have to be really quick to catch it at the right moment or ya lose it. I hate wasting goat milk.

Hi Ladies. Thanks for the welcome. @Kris...I'm looking into moving to SC to be near family. Is Chickamauga anywhere near Augusta? We'll be close to that town. I haven't written in my blog in a while and have to get back on track. I make cold process, hot process and liquid soap. My grandmother used to make soap and passed the knowledge on down to me. I have made goat's milk. Isn't it the best? And you have the milk right there on your farm, how blessed you are. I've never done french milled but sure wish we were closer so you could teach me.

@ Cynthia...you really must try making soap. There are so many soapmakers in Ca to help you along. Soapmaking is the most wonderful skill I have ever learned. If you ever need advice you can always ask and I'd be glad to help.

Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Delores

Hi Delores. Welcome from Ga. I hope you move somewhere near me so we can make soap together. I am a soapmaker also. I need to get busy and make some for Christmas. What kind do you make? I am more into French milling. So it takes a bit longer to do. I also make goat milk soap. I have had up to 7 does at once. I am down to just 2 right now. Til spring anyway. I am looking for a few good bucks right now so we can have spring kids.

So welcome again. I hope you have fun here. I love it.
