I've been enjoying Mary Janes Farm magazine for a while now but couldn't resist joining the sisterhood any longer. I live in Laporte CO, a small town outside of Ft. Collins. I live in town but love the country atmosphere of Laporte. I'm country at heart! Recently retired and ready to tackle the many projects I have "accumulated"! A BIG howdy to all. I'm excited to be a Farmgirl!

Hi again Elaine..
Wow I just finished typing a long post and something went wrong and I lost it ! Agggggghhhhhhhh ! anyway it's getting late but I have a bunch more info that I think will help us. My mother in law had a Great uncle that established a farm in Timnath so I think we have a connection but it goes waaaaaayyyyyyy back. She had what I believe would have been second cousins named Sam and Dave..
I have a list of names that may help us if you want to email me. I will be leaving for NYC early Sun a.m but will be able to access email .

Well before we give this up I have to ask if you know a Jake, Wanda or Brenda Hersh. They are my cousins and my uncle had a farm between Boyd and Horseshoe lakes. The farmland has been sold off but the last time I was that way the farm house was still there. Let's see what happens with this :)

I guess we should start with ages, maybe your dad was a nephew or cousin to my MIL? Her name is Edith. She is about 81 and I know there were several siblings and i will give you as many as I Know and see if any ring a bell..I know she had brothers Rueban (the only one i ever remember meeting)He was an old bachlor that lived on the farm with no electricity until the day he died. There was also a brother leroy and another brother Danny I believe that died as a young man. There were also sisters...Pauline maybe Ester and I think that's all I know. I know my Hubbys cousins that would be 50's to 60's own an excavating business in Ft Collins but I have never met any of them so I am no help with their names, maybe Larry? I also believe that one of his cousins ran a dairy farm . Maybe Terry? I remember their names rhymed and I think Terry was one name. Anyway that is the extent of my knowledge ..

Well Susan, I think we ran into a wall here :( There is a Weitzel & Sons Excavating and even though my brother, Don, worked for them for a while, we are not related. I had an uncle Leroy but I'm pretty sure they are not the same ones. If you find out anything different let me know. This has been fun! And even if we aren't the same Weitzels we are still NATIVES of Ft. Collins. Love it!!!

Well Susan, I think we need to look into this further, what do you think? My father's name was Sam. Let's see if that helps. My dad was born in Timnath. Wouldn't that be a kick if we were related?

I was born in Ft. Collins, my mother was born in a house that is still standing here in Laporte. My mother and son now live in Loveland and our 2 daughters live next door to each other here in Laporte. We did live in Loveland for about 10 years. The little gas station you mention was Ray Young's place but it's no longer a gas station and the deer are gone. It is now the Old Feed & Grain store and I go there to get my chicken feed. Small world. My maiden name was Weitzel and my married name is Dreilng. Any of those names ring a bell?

I'm assuming you like to quilt. I just retired and have a ton of quilting projects to tackle. I have never quilted before but my mother does so every time I'm in a quilt store with her I get carried away and buy MORE stuff. I like to crochet. I do some knitting and I like rubber stamping. Oh heck, I like all kinds of things, that's my problem!

Lifes not the breaths you take, but the moments that take your breath away.

Just a small town country girl, farmgirl, loggergirl, trying to live her dreams. :)

P.s. I've been playing around with the spelling of my name ( weird I know) and I've decided that I will stick with Hannah for good. Sorry I got you all confused. Hugs!!
