So happy to be a new member of the community! My husband and I settled in the Spokane region about 7 years ago after many moves across the US. We love the area, as does our daughter who (thankfully) has decided to stay nearby now that she has completed her education! We have 28 acres to share with three dogs, two horses, a barn cat. Our daughter is living in our guest house as she searches for a job. Couldn't be happier to have her there and I have my fingers crossed that she will stay for quite a while - even after she finds employment.

I grew up on a ranch in the Sacramento Delta and my husband is (as my college friend dubbed him) a gentleman farmer. He is happy to lend muscle when needed, but gardening is really "my" thing, not his. The animals are mostly my daughter's and getting to know and love them is one of the biggest gifts she has given me.

Well. that is probably too much info for just an intro . . . looking forward to hearing from some of you!

It is kind of nice that there isn't a bunch of snow on the ground this morning! Those first few days of driving until everyone gets used to it again can be kind of hairy!!

See ya in a few . . . Marianne definitely getting some gingerbread . . . I think . . .

Are you kidding . . . of course!! Moment of silence- I did miss the quilt show this year. I adore seeing all the quilts blowing in the wind and adorning the barns. Another great part of living here is the Air Show. Starting Thursday, of course, when all the noisy planes arrive for the weekend. I really love it here.

Grace,

Thanks for the message. I would love to meet with any of you who could make it . . . I think I know exactly where you mean for the raw milk, etc. And I have seen the Pacadashery at fairs around the area. Doesn't she name her yarns after the alpacas the wool comes from???

We are right down Dover Rd on Deep Creek. I thought it was sort of a hidden area when we first moved here in 03, but it seems everyone knows Deep Creek. Anyway, love the view and the wildlife.

Fun hearing from you . . . remember me when you head into Starbucks.

Firemama is in M.L., kpaints lives in Cheney & I live twixt & tween A.H. & M.L.....
we'll have to meet up for coffee at Starbucks in A.H. sometome...
I think there are currently about a 10 of us in and around the Spokane area.
I can't recall if it was you that likes to play w/fibers, but there are several Alpaca farms around us, and the Pacadashery in M.L. and sell alapca fibers.
Also if you are into organic/free range meats, raw milk,& veggies, there is a farm just around the corner of Craig & Thorpe rds....

Heidelberg has a little of everyone here; Army, Air Force, Allied Forces, etc. Most people seem to really love the experience of living abroad and I have before but am currently "over it". We have lived all over the place. I think at this point in my life I am happiest just sitting still which (of course) flies in the face of all things military.

Hey! We used to live in Burlington, WI . . . not too far away from Janesville or am I mistaken? My husband is a chocolate guru and early in his career, we spent two years at Nestle there. It was so pretty, lovely lakes, fierce humidity and for the first time in my life, I experienced cold that hurt.

Thanks for the hello.

You are exactly right, Najia. Airway Heights is the closest "city" to us. I thought Heidelberg was where our base was in Germany. It is often a destination for the many airmen and their families we have met since living here. Some people really love the chance to live abroad, but I think I would miss the US too much. Do you get terribly homesick for America?
countrified_city_gurl Posted - Oct 25 2010 : 10:39:27 PM
Sounds like you are out by Airport Heights. :) My husband is in the Army and Uncle Sam decided we needed to live abroad. I would swap places with you in a heartbeat though...I love it over there!
