Posted - Nov 05 2010 : 11:49:52 AM Hi! I'm a mother of three (Azara is 10, Tim is 9, and Evan is 6mo) who has been living in Reno, Nevada for the past year. My husband is a native Nevadan, but I'm from Alabama, so I'm learning how to bloom in a whole new climate! I despaired of planting a garden last spring because the snow never seemed to stop (plus Evan was born in April), but I hope to this coming spring. I have to admit that i'm not very crafty, but I do enjoy simple living. I spent a whole month a couple of summers ago hiking on the Appalachian Trail -- 425 miles! It was one of the best experiences of my life! Well, that's a bit about me. I look forward to getting to know all y'all better. Oh, one other thing, I only have dial up on my computer, so sometimes I'm slow about responding to messages. Sorry in advance :) ~ Alisha |

Posted - Nov 13 2010 : 4:36:23 PM Hi Alisha! We just moved to Montana two years ago, after living 20 yrs in Dayton/Carson area. I do miss Lake Tahoe, there is no place like it! Pretty short gardening season. (not as short as montana) The extention at UNR is very helpful with gardening tips for that climate. Well glad to see you here. Theresa

Posted - Nov 08 2010 : 10:15:58 AM Thanks for all the welcome notes! There is soo much good info and so many nice people here; I've been having a great time reading posts and getting inspired! Diane, I love your E.B. White quote :). Laura, I know some people have great gardens in Reno... I just need to learn when to plant and remember to be more vigilant about watering! |

Posted - Nov 05 2010 : 5:43:34 PM Welcome from WA, Alisha. I have a friend who lives in Minden NV, and she said her garden did very well. I know that's a ways from Reno, though.
